There were glimpses, certainly in his later seasons where we became much more of a posession team but yeah I agree.

I remember a time when both Cahill and Fellaini were injured and we played a central midfield of Osman, Arteta and Bily and beat chelsea and man u in consecutive games and it was amazing and then cahill and fellaini came back and that was the end of that.

I think it was Osman, Arteta and Peinaar mate but yes that was fantastic football. I think we pushed towards it but never at any point did we play a system that suited Osman.

Unfortunately we didn't have the players to cover for it. Often he was in central midfield next to Gibson who was getting increasingly bogged down with Injury or Neville. Fellaini played but would often be up front. Yu do need players like McCarthy and Besic (and to point Coleman) who can cover the ground that Osman is unable too.

Thing is someone has to spend that money.

We need what another 8 players maybe this summer?

Certainly you could bin 8 players without any murmer of complaint if not more.

You're going to have trust someone to try and rebuild this squad and it's a big job that could effect us for years.

If not martinez then who? I mean, I'll tell you right now that Besic, McCarthy and Lukaku shouldn't be binned so his record can't be too bad.

I take your points, I hope it is someone else who spends the money, as you are right it will affect us for years, Summer is massive for us.
The players he has signed have not been used properly, Besic being brought off, Lukaku played out of position many times, no use signing them if you are destroying their confidence and not playing to their strengths. Martinez`s philosophy is flawed, this season all have worked out how to set up against us, he cant mix it up or change, I see him as very limited and out of his depth, for me the post match ramblings equate to the ramblings of a buffoon, and I want what is best for the club and this buffoon isnt it

The thing is if he brings in good players but can't use those players properly then you sack him at christmas or next summer and you've got a good squad for someone else to deal with.

The real worst case scenario is he brings in ten alcarazs and kones and boselis then you have no money and a squad that no manager can do well with.

In experience though he has signed well when its a brand new signing.

robles isnt a bad keeper. Ok not a world class one but he has shown this season he is much safer a keeper than Mucha ever was.

Deufleu was a good player, who a lot of us (including myself) would love to have back.

McCarthy- Actually great player and could be immense for us over the years. Bargain for the price.

Besic- Fast becoming my favourite player.

Lukaku- Best young striker in europe

And compared to the other signings

Alcaraz- Very cheap back up defender both wages and free.

Barry- Experienced ex international from the league champions no less for free.

Kone- 5 million doesnt buy much but a 15 goals striker isnt a bad return if he had done the same for us.

McGeady- I am not a fan but to be fair he was dirt cheap and when he does something good then fantastic, plus he has a bit of pace which isnt bad.

All signings can be seen with a sense of common sense instead of them lot next to us with the scattergun approach. He signed who he did as stop gaps with the limited funds and the following year he secured a massive coup in a striker and a fantastic young midfielder as well as bringing possibly future players into the club. Not bad transfer policy in my opinion.

I think this is true. Martinez has been astute in the transfer market, perhaps more so than Moyes in how he's used the loan market and getting players in who can "do a job" cheaply at the end of their contract (see McGeady). I think he has more of a realistic strategy than Moyes too. He identified we needed a top striker to go onto the next level. He also knew we could do with some depth in the squad. The way of getting round that was to add depth with cheaper signings and spend big money in a key area.

The issue isn't with his transfers but really with how he deploys them and organises them. I think this is where Moyes came up trumps, we'd often not sign anyone but he'd manage to organise the team effectively.

One thing that I think we may have to consider is that if Martinez were to go, you'd have to think that McCarthy would follow him out the door to whatever club he ended up at

He's a Martinez buy and a Martinez guy

McCarthy can push on to the next level without Bobby.

What would be the point of giving millions of pounds to someone to spend on players if they cannot organise the team effectively.

You and I both know the answer.

Nah, I'm far less convinced about his transfers than you.

He's done ok but there's questions over his ability to spot a coleman or a cahill in the lower leagues who can defo make the step but nobody else really fancies.

McGeady, Alcaraz etc are those kind of gambles and they haven't really turned out.

What he's done well is he's sold well, used the loan market well and when put down big money made sure it wasn't wasted but we are a club which has to excel in the transfer market and he hasn't yet proven that he does. It's a big big summer for him in that respect.

The fact his budget as been around 5 times that of Moyes' has probably helped as well.

Kone is still the worst signing for me, £5m for a 29yr old 2nd choice (3rd choice really as he never userped Jelavic in the team) striker with a history of major knee injuries with little to zero sell on value for a club like Everton is a poor deal.

Like with alcaraz when you sign players who have a poor injury record it is not "unlucky" that they go on and get injured again.

Yep and the buffoon`s signings are 50/50 at best, 3 good 3 poor we cant afford that really, big gamble giving him until Christmas, I think we would know within the first six games if, we have a well thought out and planned pre-season, something that he failed with with last time.

I think taking the pre season and all season into account Martinez has failed massively, this is a great squad and should do much better, I think there are lots of problems behind the scenes with his style of play, incresed injuries due to this, and players not being comfortable with his football philosophy, ` square pegs round holes` for me out soon as season finished

You want him sacked then?
