“Antolin and Phil had created a very strong partnership in the previous two games and after keeping a clean sheet against Newcastle there is no need to dislodge that.

“Second, since he had the virus John has not played any football so it would be a major, major risk to throw him into a game of that intensity with the last experience he had away from home in Europe when he got sent off.

“It was important to have continuity in the back four that kept a clean sheet on Sunday and that is the reason.”

Martinez added: “Antolin had to deal with too many actions that we, as a team, didn’t stop well enough on Thursday night.

“I don’t think defensively he had a poor game, I think as a team we put our defence and keeper under immense pressure because our defensive performance as a team wasn’t up to standard.”

Is he serious?! Every reason he has given for Alcaraz being in the team could have been applied to Robles over Howard!

The man can't keep a track of all the bollocks he talks.
I think he should just keep his own counsel, as he's not helping himself at the moment.

Of course these polls are irrelevant as we all know. They only serve to absorb our understandable instant frustrations/anger/pragmatism/delusion depending on our standpoint.
Unless banners go up at GP, fans gather in dissent out the back of the Park end etc and the media run with it; there's no pressure on Kenwright. Apart from the results obtained as we go through these last 9 'cup finals' and we get dangerously close to the drop.

Kenwright is the key decision maker here ( however we don't know yet the collective influence of the other shareholders) and for the reasons below Martinez stays;

- BK built up a reputation amongst other PL chairman as one who was loyal to his manager through the Moyes era, he would not want to become a slayer after such a short time.
- BK chose RM, and to fire now or in the summer would amount to poor judgement on his part when appointing him - how would that look to his fellow chairman? ( a nice little elite group he likes being a part of); and perhaps to his fellow shareholders. Levy has similar form but he has the thick skin and personality not to give a damn.
- He wants another long term manager because that means he can continue with his other life in peace, be a supporter and not have to contemplate too many difficult conversations with people - he will ride out any discontent now in the hope that things will settle, improve and ensure the longer term vision prevails. My issue with that is BK / the club have not set out that long term vision.

For me, I want RM out for the simple reason he is not good enough for Everton. Lovely bloke, infectious and the kind of person you want to succeed. Football at this level consumes people like that unfortunately. As someone has already mentioned, EFC in the 21st century needs different ownership.
Banners and marches. Kopite stuff.

QPR like this.

OkOkoKoKoKokoK.

I honestly dont know what I want, im struggling to make my mind up, on 1 hand is last season, the performances, the belief, the forward thinking, going to Old Trafford and going toe to toe with a massive side, thats proper pony these days, but still, it meant a lot to get that monkey off our back, we then went to Analfield and rolled around while we got our arse tickled, ive said it before, but the alarm bells rang for me in January, I recall having a few exchanges with a certain @chicoazul, who said I should think of the long game, I should have ignored the threat of Spurs and United spending bucket loads to get back.

Last season we had a REAL chance of joining footballs elite and claiming 4th, but instead of kicking on, instead of making a real show of intent we signed an injured striker, who lets face it didnt help us a single bit. Alarm bells for me, it showed a lack of footballing IQ, but the season ended and in the end I suppose you could say, given our points total, we were unlucky not to claim 4th.

I honestly dont know whats happened this season, the players should take their share, but the tactics and the team selections have been on the main utterly shocking, no balance, no direction and a lack of motivation from numerous players every single week, ive waited all season for last seasons Everton to come back, but its gone and whats left is a team that currently sits in 14th, got knocked out of both domestic cups in the "first" round and had a superb run in Europe only to be knocked out due to a having a manager that simply does not have a clue how to pick a side in order to match the occasion.

So do I want him sacked? God knows, if I woke up tomorrow and he had resigned I think I would be happy tho. So no, im not asking for him to be sacked, nor do I want to resign, but if either thing was to happen, I dont think I would care.

Let's put it this way (in the event he was sacked): if anyone reading an Everton history book in the future looked at the pages relating to Martinez they'd see a first season like last ones and the stats that go with them...then they'd look at what happened the next season and see that Everton dropped out of the top half and they'd say "yeah, that was pretty poor that second season...but **** me, that was a bit harsh getting rid of him after two seasons like that wasn't it?!"

THAT is how history would judge any Martinez sacking.

Dont be on the bad guys side of history and feel any part of that shame.

Results and performances will mould our future young Jedi, we will know in 9 games time.

It's the not know that kills me mate. I'd love to know what Bill thought of this.

If Bill came out and said that Bobby is here for the long run and this season was a tough one which we're going to pull through and come out on top next season, I'd be content.

Mike walker agrees

Fair enough. He does my nut as a pundit though.

Agreed, although last night he was accurate in his observations of the very basic problems with our defense - stuff like "he's standing too far away from him" and "he should go with his runner instead of just standing there and watching".

if you can't take the manager being criticised it's you who needs to stop being a big jessie
Come on sweetie I said my issue is with fellow blues making me cringe, like you just done some more there.

I credit you with being better than kopites in your self loathing but this season is making me have doubts about if many of you are indeed any better than an average kopite.

In fairness mate, you're 100% right here. Looking back it would seem a crazy move.

I really hope we finish the season strongly and get our confidence back again.
