Let's not just tar all Wigan players with the same brush. There are plenty I wouldn't have taken but additionally, on their day, Wigan were a superb team last year and the year before showing teams like us, Spurs, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Man Utd and Man City they can beat any of us home and away. I'm undecided as yet on Kone and I don't think we even went after who was clearly Wigan's best player - Shaun Maloney - but I'm happy with McCarthy, Robles and Alcaraz. Alcaraz is a very accomplished defender beset by injuries, the other two are both under 23 and great prospects for the future, as well as good enough to aid us in the now.

Being dismissive of a player because of who they play for is exactly how the England team has been picked for years, and lest we forget, we're ****ing rubbish

Anyone else concerned that apart from Delofeu all of our Summer signings where players Martinez knew of from Wigan or already played in the Premiership.

The best value in the transfer market seems to be from foreign leagues and I for one was hoping that Martinez would be bringing in some cheap talent he had unearthed overseas.

I am happy with the squad we start the season with and Lukaku was a great addition. I am concerned for the long term at the moment with three of Martinez' signings being 30+ (Alcaraz, Barry, Kone - all permanent or in the case of Barry potentially permanent) and the youth of Delofeu, Lukaku being temporary ones. The only signings for the long term are McCarthy & Robles and that means he has spent several million on players that will not be making any contribution 3 seasons from now or have any residual value.

Not concerned.

The next windows will be completely different to the one just gone. Its normal for a manager to go back for players that he knows to help him get settled in his new job.

Take a look at our squad at the end of last season and compare it to the squad today..................we've been vastly improved, irrespective of the loan status of a couple of the players so you have nothing to be complaining about

not hard to get lukaku lad... all he needed to do was phone mirallas or mirallas' agent (same one as lukaku) and get them to have a word. Knew each other since they were 14.

Mourinho said today that Lulaku had many options and the public had to respect his descision to pick Everton. I know we have a Belguim lad in Kev but so do alot of teams now.

I do not feel the recent window reflects on Martinez's scouting network or ability to un-earth gems.

I think he's done the right thing, bringing in tried and tested players.

At Wigan he was in a position where he could take a gamble on a foreign unknown. But he of all people, knows that he can't afford to take risks like this in his first full season as Everton manager.

I believe next season, if given the funds, he will surprise a lot of people in the transfer market but for now, he's done a terrific job.

He bought mccarthy from scotland, Kone from spain and Robles from spain. Its clear his scouting network extends a bit further than Wigan!

he very clearly, in the interview when he had just signed Robles, stated he had been tracking him for a couple of years before he took him to Wigan.

Not sure how many of us keep our eyes out for Athletico youth and reserve players?

Robles was a steal of a signing as well i reckon. He can actually catch a corner! Needs to teach Howard that one...

Chris Woods Likes This.

McCarthy is the only player who will be in the first 11 next season.

Kone and Alcaraz are ridiculous buys.
Robles - jury is out
Loans are all good but costing a lot of money for one season only.

McCarthy, Robles, Lukaku,Deulofeu are the only ones worth having....he should have gotten rid of some of our players as well.
