Player Valuation: £10m
Anyone else concerned that apart from Delofeu all of our Summer signings where players Martinez knew of from Wigan or already played in the Premiership.

The best value in the transfer market seems to be from foreign leagues and I for one was hoping that Martinez would be bringing in some cheap talent he had unearthed overseas.

I am happy with the squad we start the season with and Lukaku was a great addition. I am concerned for the long term at the moment with three of Martinez' signings being 30+ (Alcaraz, Barry, Kone - all permanent or in the case of Barry potentially permanent) and the youth of Delofeu, Lukaku being temporary ones. The only signings for the long term are McCarthy & Robles and that means he has spent several million on players that will not be making any contribution 3 seasons from now or have any residual value.

New managers at a club will go back to their last club 99% of the time..

He'll have a stretch now to identify targets knowing he has a wee bit of money to spend.

I would expect players in the last year of their contract will be targeted in January, where we can better value for a nominal fee. In fact what the [Poor language removed] am I talking like this for? I know jack sh*t. I've turned into one of them plebs who does soccer chat and sound like he's up his own confident arse. Every single last f*cking one of your mothers.

No problem with that, it's more the age of the 'signings' as opposed to the 'loans'. I am hoping to see some 'unearthed' gems with any change Martinez has left to spend in January. Moyes generally made sure the money he spent would generate a return so he could re-invest, something Martinez must get to grips with quickly.

Think he did excellent in getting Lukaku and Barry.

Not pleased with Kone and McCarthy though. For the 18m between them both we could have had someone much better on our books.

not hard to get lukaku lad... all he needed to do was phone mirallas or mirallas' agent (same one as lukaku) and get them to have a word. Knew each other since they were 14.

So because he went for proven in the prem your worried? ok.

For me, them signings your craving will come. But they werent going to come yet. Theres already lids on here thinking hes a gash manager...imagine if he had spent £10 on 5 players from Um Bongo who noone had heard of and we drew our first 3 games!

Mass hsyteria would have ensued!

he knows hes under pressure to emulate Moyes, he knows hes got a good starting point and it was always going to be a case of get a few of his favourites in and the ones he knew about...wait a while, see how the squad were for him then add where he thought he needed to.

But he needed to know that the players he went for werent going to let him down. So his gone for risk free signings in his eyes.

Should of got on the phone to Barkley's agent, same as Damiao. Could have signed him easily.

IMO he has been working ina level of the transfer market that is at the level of Wigan, whereas now he has the opportunity to step up a tier or players that are realistic. Rather than him get everything done and looked at within 3 months, he's gone for players he knows well, or knows will suit the prem. i would even go so far as to say, he'd not of gone for Deulofeu if we HAD to pay a large loan fee. as it happens its fairly risk free.

He doesnt need a scouting network he can log on here find the most exotic name and sign him. as long as he doesnt have a british surname and has never played in the premiership (the division he will ply his trade) we will be ok.

Well, his "scouting network" brought all those guys to the premier league in the first place. While I'm all for getting cheap talent and I'm sure there will be signings like that down the road, perhaps what this squad needs is some established players.

This is a good point: five of the seven were originally brought to the PL by Martinez. He's networked up like ****ing Spiderman, lad.
