Martinez Scouting Network

[I still think Martinez is somewhat unproven in the transfer market, and before the zealots jump in, that isn't me saying he's crap.
Honestly, I don't think he had the time he wanted to make signings. Not making excuses for him of course, but McCarthy is a player he knows and has studied at great length, Kone likewise. The loans are stop gaps for the time being. Scouting will be done from now untill new year and I think the January window will greater reflect Martinez's ideas, if he is backed.

I"ll throw a few oldies in George Best, Derek Duggan, (sp) Pat Jennings. It doesn't matter what nationality you are these days I wouldn't care if we signed someone from the Upper Volta provided he was good enough and could do the business for Everton

I think Upper Volta no longer is a country name...it's Burkina Faso

Burkina Faso is a landlocked country in West Africa . Its capital is Ouagadougou. In 2010, its population was estimated at just under 15.75 million.[1]

Formerly called the Republic of Upper Volta, the country was renamed "Burkina Faso" on 4 August 1984 by then-President Thomas Sankara

BTW, one of its neighbours is the Ivory Coast aka Kone-ville

Not concerned at all.

By stealth he has in this window filled our squad with players who would grace any champions league outfit.

Leave mccarthy and kone out of it as those are standard 'manager going back to old club to get his mates' style purchases, but lukaku, gerard, barkley and barry - yes barry - would all not look out of place in the CL.

You will say these are all loans, however thats the boards fault, not Bobby's.

Moyes would have had the same issue but wouild not have employed the same level of creativity to get the players in. We'd watch Osman and Jelavic for yet another season if Moyes was still here with Ross on loan to Blackpool!

Not really the boards fault, Lukaku and Deulofeu were simply not for sale (or maybe at silly £20+ million price tags).

Moyes may well have failed to land the likes of Lukaku (I'm sure he would of screwed that up by doggedly refusing to give him any assurances about game time) and lacked the contacts or style of of play to convince Barcelona to lend one of their prized assets.

He also tended not to go for loans unless it was attached to an option to buy (Barry almost meets this criteria as he will be available to sign at the end of his loan) because it was essentially money down the drain in the long term. Loan deals are the equivalent of renting a player, and in any market outright purchase is financially a better option than rental as you at least build some equity up from your payments.

I use to be on Moyes side when it came to not loaning players without the clause of signing him at the end of the loan. Lukaku loan at west brom changed my mind, if only we had him last season on loan, we might have got Europe. So glad we got him this time round.
