Strangely I'm edging towards @davek here. Last season his influence was pretty successful, and were almost intoxicated by his supposed ability.

It's easy to say with hindsight that we shouldn't have expected more when you look at his Wigan record, yet last year showed little of this.

It was a gamble that seemed to be paying off; maybe that's what makes this season and our decline even more difficult to swallow.

I sincerely hope this season is just a blip, nevertheless it's becoming more possible that that last season merely flattered him and deceived us.

Either way, I think his reputation as an upcoming manager (who'll one day manager Barca etc) is taking a pretty hefty battering.

He may have won the FA Cup with, but that coincided with relegation. He may have got us into Europe, but now we're teetering near an abyss.

I doubt many of the bigger clubs will ever take a risk upon him looking at how ad hoc his results can be.

This article was written when he just took over. This is the clearest hint that many of us had been saying all season.
When he took over, he had the solid foundation and a well drilled team. Slowly, he made changes until all these quality are no longer the in the squad DNA anymore. This may well explain our imploding decline over the last 18 months.
