Pity BK went overley on about Moyes, but all that aside, without sounding too much like Jerry Miguire...he had me at Champions league.

Seriously, what is he supposed to say? Well Moyes was a total genius and I will never be able to 'achieve' what he did...which was **** all really but he convinced us all it was still special.

Well im totally sick to the back teeth of all that small club, little old everton punching above their weight in the top 8 of the league bollocks, it gets me down and makes me sick. And that was Moyes mentality...it also rubbed off on Neville cos we heard him recently spouting ****e about top 8 being amazing for a club like Everton - when he said that i coudlnt wait for him to **** off back down the 62!

So we get a manager in who says, I want to give you CL football and hes getting slated for it FFS? Hes shown more ambition in a day that moyes showed in a decade. I dont even care if he delivers it or not, its the fact he beleives he can and he beleives he can take a good squad and improve it. That is exactly what i wanted to hear from him yesterday, not negative bollocks about no money to spend or losing players.

I dont care he took wigan down either, he basically had to rebuild his team every single summer, cos wigan are so ****, anyone decent left at the first chance they got. Moses, Nzogbia, Valencia etc etc. Thats why IMO he never done anything till it was too late cos he was constantly starting again and bringing a team together. Some of the most succesful current managers atm have also experieced relegation early in their career. Wenger took Nancy down in the mid 80's...Benitez took Extremundal (or something) down early in his...and I wouldnt mind Martinez haveing their honours list in 10 years time!

Dont like BK at all, but he was just excited yesterday and got carried away. But Martinez gets me excited too so i dont even blame him for that.

Who knows...maybe we wont have 11 men in our own 18 yard box when we defend a corner next season?

Moyes for all he done was 'lets not get beat'

Martinez wants to win and i love him for that already

Not a bad post that mate.

I disagree slightly in that I still have some reservations over a relegated manager but he speaks very well and ambition should never be condemned.

We'll see how we go but I'm more confident about it after hearing him speak.

Nailed it.

I read a couple of things from the press conference these involve the patently obvious and the not so:

1) Bill can't letting somebody have a share of the spotlight. Roberto was almost stuffed into the corner of the shot. It was all about Bill and his theatrics.

2) Bill has pretty much admitted that he never listened to the fans other wise why use statements such as "if the fans had been at the meetings they would have felt the same about Roberto." Not only is he suggesting that he knows what the public opinion was regarding the appointment but he also did Martinez a massive disservice by publicly admitting that the fans were none-too-inspired by him.

3) We'll give Roberto a "couple of quid" to make new signings. Same old tired bullsh*t from Deal Leader again. Does he honestly believe we'll swallow the rhetoric every time he opens his mouth? You could see him tentatively uttering the words and then visibly squirm as if he knows he's tying the noose just that little bit tighter.

4) Martinez has a sense of humour. "I can't wait to see the transfer kitty, what was it - two hundred something?" Genius.

5) Martinez is already playing this situation with kid gloves. Even though he made the right noises regarding Champions League, he also admitted there would be difficult times ahead in a further interview. He knows the power system already in place here.

6) Martinez has a genuine ambition and wishes to immerse himself in all things Everton. All power to him on this front. He nailed his flag to the mast and says he think Everton should be a champions league side.

With those things being said I will get behind him. He inherits a terrific squad and I honestly believe his daring attitude might win us just a few extra points alone this season. We may well witness a few away wins against the established elite. Moyes stank the place out with his negativity in the end and yes I blame him for shattering the confidence of players such as Jelavic (presently) and Victor (previously.)

I can't see us being on the wrong end of complete hidings, and I think we will see us dishing a couple out this season. I'm just interested to see who he has his eyes on in 'The world market' because we're only a couple away from upsetting the order. This squad has Moyes's defence capabilities ingrained into them now. With the right attacking impetus then we may just see us tearing a few teams apart. There is also the issue Ross Barkley. I think he is going to flourish under Martinez and we may well have a ready made £15-20mil player in our midst already.

In all I'm looking forward now, not backwards and if Bill does get the cheque book out and gives say £15mil, I reckon Martinez may just go and pull out a few more of those South American gems for us to salivate over.

Just find it strange that he's getting any slating for the champions league comment, which was IMO simply stating it as the long term goal.

The media and some fans have bloody short memories though, with something like 7-8 games left the champions league last year looked a VERY real chance, put us in that same position this year with a deeper squad and a jelavic on form and it being a **** or bust situation and id feel more confident under bobby than i would do under moyes that we could get it

Did anyone else find it completely frustrating that Kenwright mentioned moyes every 5 seconds in the press conference? He is no longer our manager and frankly deserves no mention in official everton business until our next fixture against united, especially when its the press conference to announce the new manager FFS, seems like kenwright mentioned moyes name before he even acknowledged roberto as the new manager with his whole '4 weeks and 87 minutes ago' line.

Also the comment that annoyed me the most was when Kenwright said something along the lines of 'Im not going to say its like David where he convinced me in 30 seconds, but Roberto did it in about 45'.
Why on earth would you say something like that which immediately puts Roberto down as worse than moyes in the fact that he took extra time to decide i.e. implication that he is less convincing that the manager we just lost.

The press conference for our new manager is no time to put him down in a direct comparison to the one thats just left, if he genuinely thought that it shouldnt have been said. If it was a line as a sound bite then surely he should have said that martinez convinced him quicker to send a positive message to the fans at how good he was in interview.

Just smacked of ' we lost moyes so heres someone good but not as good' which is absolutely the wrong message to send at his appointment, roberto had it spot on when he said we should be pushing on from moyes walk

I also dislike the misrepresentation of Martinez' win percentage which is little over fifty percent during his career. His was the blueprint followed and still follow to this day at Swansea.

As others have stated, it was only being robbed of his good players season in - season out that had adverse effects on his stability at Wigan. Even though they've been relegated he leaves the blueprint there for another manager to follow and I believe Wigan will come back much stronger for it too.

I dont think Moyes ever genuinely beleived he could get CL last season.

I think Martinez beleives he can and for the life of me i dont see the problem with having confidence and belief in yourself or your players.

Martinez will no doubt go 3-5-2. With no new players you say Jags, Distin and Tings.

Weve got 2 of the best attacking full backs in the division, take your pick from Pienaar, Fellaini?, Osman, Miralles, Gibson and co in bewteen them and at worst, Jela and Vic up front.

That already excites me tbh and until we start getting raped 4-0 by west ham im going to sit back and enjoy a bit of optimism.

If Fellaini has a release clause of 24 million then we would be getting an absolutely cracking deal if someone was stupid enough to pay it, so I don't have a problem with Kenwright promoting it if that's the case, but I can't see many clubs willing to match that as he is overhyped in the extreme and it's a figure that over values him by 4 or 5 million pound.

Fellaini denied that he had a release clause though.

Because its not a release clause its an escape clause par se, meaning that if certain criteria are met he's allowed to leave for a set amount, ie the way a relegation release would work, but in this example likely to be a condition such as if everton do not qualify for the champions league then he is allowed to discuss terms with and CL team that is willing to meet the clause amount

These type of clauses tend to have a time limit on them also and if not activated within that period they are invalid again until the next seasons end etc, so its likely that if something will happen it will be sooner rather than later

Just as a interesting point, this type of escape clause would explain all the quotes around staying if we qualified and if we didnt he would like to be playing in that comp next year etc, kind of a way of advertising the clause in a sneaky way, plus if we qualified he would have to stay etc ;p

Ah, so it's an escape clause and not a release clause, it all makes perfect sense now.

It matters not anyway, if someone is stupid enough to bid over 20 million for FellIaini then he will be sold and we would be getting a great deal depending on how the money is then spent.
