Martínez is transforming Everton

Well, this time last year we started to wonder if the wheels were starting to come off. We had a great start last season in terms of the football we were playing but you get the impression we started fast, then faded. Martinez started steady and we are slowly cranking it up (although we need to do better defensively). My point is that under Moyes we were as good as we were going to be but under Martinez you get the feeling we are only at 70%. That's the difference. Now, we have a difficult period coming up. If we take 7 from 12 over the next 4 games I think it will a very good outcome

Admire the positivity mate, but if we finish above 6th this year then I'd be surprised/made up, that probably goes for his entire tenure as well. The other teams are just better than us/have more finances at their disposal.

Which would have been absolutely fine.

I kind of agree, we are not much different tom last year. We are two points better off. However, as has been noted, last year was a side Moyes had spent 11 years to build, whereas we are 3 months into Martinez's regime.
The side we are playing is also a fair bit younger. If we finish 2 points better than last season, given we have really spent any money (net) and it's Martinez's first season that would be excellent. Our league performance was the strongest part of the Moyes era, and it is being matched.

Spot on in every sense, mate. If Martinez maintains this then he's done brilliantly.

And you know what, launching a few balls into Fellaini off the front man wouldn't have actually gone a miss today or any other time we've played this season.

the derby will show if/how hes different to moyes

The Hull game has already shown us that, he went out to win when Moyes would of stuck it out for the draw, same against Spurs, ok it didnt come off then but least he went for it. The short time he has been here has shown us he is so different to Moyes.

If we lose the Derby but he went out for the win he is different to Moyes and just what we want, the players not doing it is a different matter. Moyes never understood that game means a lot to us.

I always thought that the problem with Martinez's Wigan were that they were too relaxed and they didn't start playing until the pressure was on. Maybe we need to get a bit more fired up before the game?

Certainly for the last couple of games we haven't been at the races in the first half. Liverpool do have a tendency to score their goals early, so it is definitely something to be aware of.

It's difficult to tell which parts of our play are legacies from Moyes that Martinez is trying to iron out and which things he's encouraging. We may be passing the ball better but we still lack movement, so we're not finding anyone in space with our passes.

Think this is our main problem at the moment. There was an article on Osman a few days ago and they also stated that he wasn't making himself available for a pass on many occasions. This is why Barry and McCarthy seem to hang on to the ball too long or end up passing back to Jags or Distin. We need movement went Jags and Distin have the ball because invariably they concede possession. Movement is the one of the greatest assets a footballing team possesses and yet we are so far removed from it. I am sure it will come with time (over the next few seasons) but without a good number of the current squad. I think Martinez will be busy in the summer attempting to bring in ball players.

Spot on.

.

That would make sense if:
We had a terrible home record under Moyes - we didn't it was superb
We hadn't beaten Spurs 2-1 last season with 2 goals in the last few minutes

I've said all along if Martinez gets anywhere near 60 points he has done really well.

I'm not convinced. I think we're lucky to be in the position we are in. Since the 2nd half of the Newcastle game we have looked gash. Could have easily lost the spurs, palace and villa games.

whilst the passing game is pleasing to watch the passion and heart seems to have gone

I dont think it's gone. You dont pick up 20 points from having no commitment to what you're doing. There's plenty of effort and concentration out on the pitch. It might be the way we play - in a more measured and controlled manner - that lends itself to that perception. The hustle and bustle we tend to associate with 'passion' isn't really passion, it's just high octane play by players limited in their ability (or who've had their ability suppressed by a manager who plays in a certain way).

I said a few weeks ago that we would hit a poor run of form, Every club does

There's a certain section of our fan base who are ready to jump all over him when this happens

Yep. Pretty sure every single manager has dropped points this season. Sack the lot of them. DERE SHABITE.
