Goat

Player Valuation: £150m
Dutch midfielder Mark van Bommel looks set to leave German club Bayern Munich in the summer with his contract coming to an end and negotiations on a new deal stalling. The 31-year-old is the current captain at the Allianz Arena but has stated recently that he is open to other offers having been disappointed with the short-term offer from the Bavarian outfit. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has previously been linked with the midfielder but given the player’s veteran status he appears to have stepped aside while Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, Everton and Portsmouth register an interest.

Bayern Munich have recently signed Anotoliy Tymoshchuk from Zenit St Petersburg and the Russian international appears to have been pencilled in as a replacement for the former Barcelona and PSV man.

Known for his combative tackling, high energy levels and quality set-pieces, van Bommel will no doubt be the subject of intense speculation from around Europe. Speaking about his situation this week, the Dutchman made clear:

“It may take until June before a decision is made. I am open to every proposal.

“At this point I just have the offer from Bayern.”

I would expect us to make a move for him.

Would be one of my best days in life, if Mark van Bommel signed for Everton. Will probably be the first to have n Everton shirt with his name and number on the back. Maybe even before MvB himself.(y)

Not for me. People seem to regard him as a holding midfielder but whenever I saw him at Barca he was playing in a reasonably advanced midfield role, he certainly wasn't the anchoring midfielder but more of a Cahill box to box type.

Nope from me, to old would cost to much, no resale value, and his powers are on the wain.

Now Jermaine Pennant on the other hand.............................

Only 31 years old and topfit. A true professional in the Neville mood, but much better quality wise. Probably just as good as Timmy Cahill in winding up players. I'm sure you'd all learn to like him. Guess he's on around €35.000,- a week at Bayern, so wouldn't undermine or wagebill. A 2 year contract + option for another would be worth the risk. Would be without doubt the best Dutch player ever playing for the Blues. The way many on here still think, Av/dM is our saviour, he would be immense.:D

Can play different roles tbh. A very versatile player, plays in the holding position for the Dutch national team. Can also play as a right mid, central midfielder and indeed the Cahill role. Not afraid to get stuck in and a very good (not to say excellent) passing range.

I definately want him at Everton now.:D

If he's going on a free it'd be stupid not to atleast enquire. I'm sure we will too. He doesn't seem like a very Everton signing though, I can't recall us ever making a high-profile bosman signing. Whenever we try it some minor Champions League team seems to swoop (i.e. Gilberto to Panathinaikos).
