Dutch midfielder Mark van Bommel looks set to leave German club Bayern Munich in the summer with his contract coming to an end and negotiations on a new deal stalling. The 31-year-old is the current captain at the Allianz Arena but has stated recently that he is open to other offers having been disappointed with the short-term offer from the Bavarian outfit. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has previously been linked with the midfielder but given the player’s veteran status he appears to have stepped aside while Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, Everton and Portsmouth register an interest.
Bayern Munich have recently signed Anotoliy Tymoshchuk from Zenit St Petersburg and the Russian international appears to have been pencilled in as a replacement for the former Barcelona and PSV man.
Known for his combative tackling, high energy levels and quality set-pieces, van Bommel will no doubt be the subject of intense speculation from around Europe. Speaking about his situation this week, the Dutchman made clear:
“It may take until June before a decision is made. I am open to every proposal.
“At this point I just have the offer from Bayern.”
I would expect us to make a move for him.
