Mark van Bommel

Royston Drenthe is an up and coming future star, Marc van Bommel still has quality but is a spent force now. Drenthe will become a very prominent footballer in the European when van Bommel enjoys his retirement.

Only 31 years old and topfit. A true professional in the Neville mood, but much better quality wise. Probably just as good as Timmy Cahill in winding up players. I'm sure you'd all learn to like him. Guess he's on around €35.000,- a week at Bayern, so wouldn't undermine or wagebill. A 2 year contract + option for another would be worth the risk. Would be without doubt the best Dutch player ever playing for the Blues. The way many on here still think, Av/dM is our saviour, he would be immense.:D
never replace ray atteveld never

we would be mad not to put our hat into the ring. simple fact is we need someone as cover for arteta so we don't end up in the situation we are in now, next season.Obvioulsy with both he and arteta in the middle together we would be a much better team also.

Drenth will not cost much, I think. Real only paid half a million for him if I remember correctly.

A good player. Able to play left back, left wing and striker. His versatility will attract moyes.

Drenthe...no chance of getting him. Imagine clubs with alot bigger resources than us would be aware of his situation.

Same applies to van bommell imo. All it would take is for one of these russian teams or a panathonikos etc to offer him a deal and he would take it over us.

And at 31 dont really see the point of spending what would be pretty large cash on a guy who is coming to the end, is totally unproven in the prem...and who i think is pretty p!sh compared to moutinho etc:unsure:

is he still in the dutch side?
Yes he is. He had some issues with former coach Marco van Basten and made it clear he never wanted to play under his regime. Now Bert van Marwijk (also his father in law) is the national team coach, he is a first eleven player once again.

Don't think van Bommel would be interested in a move to a country like Russia or Greece.

Moutinho 15-22m GBP, Mark van Bommel free transfer. It really isn't such a risk. Oh and why are you prepared to spend that much money on an unproven international player like Moutinho and don't want to take a 'risk' on a proven international on a Bosman? I'm more than convinced he could handle the Premiership.

Hes surely worth a 2 year contract on about 40k a week. We gave Saha that much, i know hes older, but hes a class player still.

Say that again but a little slower. Saha is class too but do we ever get to see him play? Van Bommel nice player long in the tooth not sure we need players in their twilight and injury prone. I don't think Moyes thinks that way either. The youth movement is on.:D

He would be good to have around the squad, players like Rodwell can learn a lot from a player of his quality. We dont have money to be splashing around, but when players are free, its madness not to have a sniff round them.

Yes I agree with that.

Still miffed about his disregard for us a few years ago and it hasn't settled well with me. He has the talent but can he take the pace of our league is another matter.

Thats true. We usually only make one major signing anyway, so players available on a free have to be the way to go.
