2020/21 Marcel Brands

I'm not basing my opinion on Brands on one summer. Its on the whole time he's been here.

He's wasted a serious amount of money on players who do not fit premier league football. Now that we have a top manager, there is no place for him in my opinion and I see no argument for his contract being extended.

We had a chance to really push on but we didn't take it. One more top attacking player would have made a huge difference. We are always a player or 2 short. Why not actually get them in just one time and be prepared for a long season.

He never has.

Quality, MOST of the time costs money.

Jota was 40m? The fella at Watford they wanted 50m+, I don't think we had that sort of money.

I said we needed an attacking option, I was all for even Josh King.

Suppose it was just that feeling that, given our start, Brands/Carlo could push the board to take advantage, or Brands could get creative (like Liverpool have done with Jota and Thiago).

There could have been options. We were - we are, like - an attractive proposition for players, which helps us if they push for a move (it's why Liverpool can get away with paying 50p for 50,000 years for players).

Just a general feeling of frustration because we as fans all knew that the worst would happen - and it did.

3 games ago people were singing his praises.

This isn't really true.

A fair few had reservations.

Look, I think he did great on the deals we did complete this last window.

You can say that and also say he didn't leave us fully stocked for what is a really weird season (but one which will also have loads of opportunities to push on).

With what he walked into, I think the level of criticism aimed at MB is harsh...

-dealing in the transfer markets is no where near as straightforward as many believe.
-He has a budget for FFP AND responsibility to the club reasons.
-The squad was already bloated with high earning dross.
-The players offloaded were the right ones.
- couldn’t offload all the dross as they need to be out of contract or wanted by another club and neither was the case with the ones remaining.
-because of previous point he was limited in who else he could bring in this last window.
-The signings he did make this summer have been decent.

The situation is not ideal for anyone. The current shitshow is a result of many years of poor decisions which include managerial appointments and directors of football in the past and the result of chopping and changing as a result of that too!!!
I have faith/hope that the guys in charge now are the right ones, we just need to give them time.

That's all well and good. I can't disagree with much.

However, people can only get time if they keep improving us.

Whatever way you look at it, we've stagnated under Brands too.

Now that's obviously not all on him and he has had his hands tied to a certain extent. But in each window he has made some dreadful decisions to take risks which have ultimately cost us.

He seems to have an approach that the team will be good enough to get away with it. Well, they aren't. And that's been proved time and time again.

In January we need at least one player, probably two. The issue is we have a DoF (and manager) who don't like doing business in January. Well why not push the boat out in the last few days of the last window and really, really make a statement. Keep the momentum going etc.

One suspension is all it's actually taken for this team to go from looking like genuine top-four contenders to mid-table fodder. That's not on Richarlison.

Questions do need to be asked why certain players weren’t shifted, no excuses for Sig turning down a move away, Bolasie sabotaging a move or Tosun ‘wanting to fight’ and not getting rid of Besic period
