I agree. Though the issue is - as again proven in the Newcastle game - the fringe players aren't good enough.
We know it's hard to get rid of them. That's why I've cut Brands slack.
But we need to have a few more options before we hit the useless frauds that have let us down and we didn't bolster in an area we were clearly weak in. It's just negligent.
The thing is, not signing a forward/winger, whatever you want to call it, has also hindered our ability to play any real system as soon as one or two players are out.
We can't move James central to any real effect because Iwobi just lets us down. We can't change to a 4-4-2 unless it's to bring Tosun on.
Every player we brought in in the last window was a step up in quality on what we had. That's a good thing.
The issue is - as has often been the case under Brands - we have been left wanting in one or two crucial areas.
I didn't expect us to solve every issue with the squad in the last window, but not getting a forward in was just ludicrous.
That doesn't excuse Carlo for crap tactics or the team being able to defend, but if losing Richarlison is all it takes to derail us then unfortunately the people in charge of getting players in have not done their jobs.

And I do agree that Carlo needs to show more flexibility.
For once, without Richarlison, we're probably screaming to play 4-2-3-1 now, just to give us that bit more solidity with a two in midfield.

Yeah but sigurdsson and gomes were so inept in those forward positions it hardly looked like we were playing that formation.
The fact Gordon hasn't been tried once in all 3 games without richarlison is mad to me. He's very direct and is probably the closest thing we have to richarlison in terms of style of play.
I also would have used Bernard on the right when James was absent. He has a bit of flair, and in theory our midfield 3 (I won't go into how successful this has been) is already setup to cover James lack of defensive ability so it should support the frailties in Bernard's game too.
But no sigurdsson and gomes are far more sensible options.

Given, all being well, we'll have Richarlison back, we either go back to the team that started the season so well or, and this is what I'd do, we put Bernard in that midfield role.
Either play that as a 4-3-3 or a 4-2-3-1. Have Doucoure and Allan as the deepest two with Bernard in the 10, James wide right.
It can be interchangeable but we're playing Fulham. We need to get a grip of the game and take it to them and get scoring again.
Allan is starting games so slowly from that '6' role and it's costing us when he dives out. He gets into his stride and looks great, but Doucoure is spending so much time deep he's hardly offering anything going forward. Get them both in the centre and given that licence for one to sit and one to go, with our attacking players ahead of them.

Would you trust either Kenny or Godfrey to start? There is your answer. The pacey front player is the crime though letting Kean/Walcott go with nobody coming in looks a worse idea every week.

Never said I rated any of our RB’s just saying we have no RB cover is a flat out numerical lie.
We have cover to some degree in every position, but cover is irrelevant if the player isn't good enough. Anyone who watched any Schalke last year would know how average Kenny is.
Its like saying we have cover at centre forward through Tosun or cover in midfield through Delph.
They messed up the window and left the manager relying on the same players who have let us down for years and got several managers sacked. You cant expect to do well with 9 solid outfield players and nothing in reserve.
