We have cover to some degree in every position, but cover is irrelevant if the player isn't good enough. Anyone who watched any Schalke last year would know how average Kenny is.

Its like saying we have cover at centre forward through Tosun or cover in midfield through Delph.

They messed up the window and left the manager relying on the same players who have met us down for years and got several managers sacked. You cant expect to do well with 9 solid outfield players and nothing in reserve.

Think you’re twisting the word cover. Cover is any player that can replace an injured player in the same position.

Our starting RB is average never mind who covers him.

Never said I rated any of our RB’s just saying we have no RB cover is a flat out numerical lie.
OK no adequate ie a player who can actually rotate with and eventually replace Coleman? For me the forward is a bigger issue because as you say at least we actually have options at the back. With Richarlison out we lack anyone with pace who can play accross the front three positions we are very light. Or anyone who can actually back up Dom. If Dom gets injured we are in trouble.

Yes Coleman had a poor game today and got targeted by a very average United side.

The obvious plan this summer should have been to sell Kenny, buy a first choice right back with pace and have Coleman in reserve. He'd be dependable cover. But instead we decided to persist with Kenny even though we all know he is very limited for a modern full back.

Our squad needed quality in depth and the manager was let down. We had a chance but instead took the cautious approach and it has already taken the wind out of our season. We cant expect success when we are happy to persist with average players.

Uniteds recruitment has also been awful but they brought on Cavani today. We brought on Tosun. Thats an enormous gulf in class. What is the point of having a DOF who doesn't provide the manager with the tools he needs.

I don’t know why we can’t just find a decent right back. Even the likes of Brighton and Norwich can get top quality ones yet we continue to stick with Coleman and Kenny. Coleman was great in his prime but that was 7 years ago now. Kenny has never and will never be premier league standard.

I think the plan was to sell Kenny if an offer came in.

Unfortunately he got injured before the end of the window.

I can't really pin that on Brands.

Not sure really. He only got injured 5 days before the deadline.

He should have been moved on early in the window to give time to replace him.

Maybe we had a set budget this Summer and that was one position we just had to leave for another year.

LOL

So now he had another terrible window?

You guys, so reactionary, we all knew we had issues we didn't address, you act like we had a bottomless pit of money to buy who we wanted.

Plot twist, we didnt.

We couldn't even sell Besic and Bolaise, maybe if we could made a few more OUTS we could have bought more.

More I think of tempting Moist back as a DOF the more I like it.

Blokes lost his way as a manager but has a very good eye for a player.

Even West Hams current 2 best players outside of Antonio are Soucek and Bowen are Moyes signings.

Knows the league as well - if we cant get Monchi or Rangnick go get the Ginger One.

Why did we not move them on is the real question? Why were we waiting until the second deadline day?

We had a good window until we allowed 2 attackers to leave and brought no one in. Right back was also a big miss.

After our good start to the season we should have been giving Carlo extra funds and really going for it. Instead we took the cautious and unambitious approach. We all predicted what would happen and it did. Thats why following Everton is so frustrating and why Brands is failing in his role.

We didnt move them on Tim cos nobody wanted to buy them in time.

Love the way everybody is now saying Walcott and Kean are missed, they were both utter piles of stinking trash here, dress it however you want.

In Walcotts case he was on massive money and we didn't want to pay top dollar for a back up.
In Keans place hes was never going to improve sitting on the bench.

Carlo would have been onboard with getting both out the door and he was also clearly onboard with us not finding anybody to replace them, maybe we tried, maybe we didn't, but Hamez getting injured was a certain, but Rico getting sent off and missing 3 games? If we knew that I'm sure we would have moved. Yes, you plan for the worst, but we have back up "attackers", sadly for us and its no surprise, but they are utter rank.

We spent fairly decent money, for a club with reduced income, we did quite well, we sadly couldn't get a few more out the door and I suppose with the ongoing uncertainty we didn't want to put ourselves right in the crap.

If it makes you feel better blame Brands, I'm sure hes as pissed off with the state of the club as most of us, sure hes made mistakes, but hes also bought some good players who showed their talent in the first few games. For whatever reason everybody has suddenly turned garbo, but its the same group of players that blew everybody away at the start.

Anyway, see you in a week or so.

There was plenty of talk that if a club offered an acceptable fee (I guess we'd want, what, £8-10m region?) he'd be sold.

A club could easily have come in for him.

But yeah, I agree, it's frustrating.

I will say that I think Coleman has got unfair stick today. Don't see what he did massively wrong, really. We know we need a long-term replacement and it should have been done. It's again an oversight. That being said, he was probably one of our top three players before his injury in the derby.

Dunno if they are tbf.

I don't think it was particularly bad to let either of them go. We just needed a player before they left, so letting those two go and then not getting anyone in, is daft, whatever way you dress it up. Having Cenk Tosun, coming back from a nine-month injury, as your only back-up forward, is daft.

What annoys me, Goat, is we didn't need 'back up'. We needed quality. That's how you push on.

The frustration comes from that, even though I agree with your general point.

Richarlison could easily contract covid and miss three games due to isolation. While it's right to say the red card can't be predicted, there has to be risk mitigation. We needed more quality and have been hindered by our previous tosh signings (who in the forward areas, Brands has been partly responsible for too).

Quality, MOST of the time costs money.

Jota was 40m? The fella at Watford they wanted 50m+, I don't think we had that sort of money.

I said we needed an attacking option, I was all for even Josh King.

I'm not basing my opinion on Brands on one summer. Its on the whole time he's been here.

He's wasted a serious amount of money on players who do not fit premier league football. Now that we have a top manager, there is no place for him in my opinion and I see no argument for his contract being extended.

We had a chance to really push on but we didn't take it. One more top attacking player would have made a huge difference. We are always a player or 2 short. Why not actually get them in just one time and be prepared for a long season.
