Ancelotti has never not worked under a DoF or head of transfers etc so he's used to the system. His job is to coach the team and get the best out of them - something he admittedly hasn't done well in the last 2-3 weeks.
He obviously will have a hand in signing some of the players but he's never been one to zoom off around Europe to watch games like Moyes did.
The system can work. It just seems our current DoF - with his hands tied by stuff out of his control - has been too willing to leave things when they needed changing.
He has a lot to balance but given our start to the season, it was time to push on and make another move. The money could be there - it's about getting creative - and if that means offsetting the risk against a big sale next summer, so be it.
But, while that wasn't done, the biggest issue then is he didn't even do the bare minimum of getting some form of replacement in for Kean and Walcott.
So we wouldn't have got James or Allan then, either

As been said countless times, Ancelotti doesn’t do scouting or signing. If we are doing away with the role, I’d leave it for Sasha Ryazantsev to do negotiations

Hope you’re right.
I do think the DOF can work but not when you sign a bum who has always left his managers short of players, remember PSV fans saying it but lucky their league is ale house.
He also hasn’t been able to shift the doss we have in 3 summers.
He’s just out of his depth and it’s so clear to see.
