2020/21 Marcel Brands

Just can't see them legging him when Carlo has stated on numerous occasions their great working relationship. Also the club after so many seasons of absolute rubbish seems to be turning the longest corner in history. For Brands to leave now would mean more upheaval, more restructuring, more bending to another DOF philosophy, who also Ancelotti may not see eye to eye with. There has obviously been conversation regarding contract talks and it's probably been agreed its probably better to leave it after the window has closed.
Factor this dimension in: Brands' own view of the situation.

He knows he has been relegated to the sidelines - the jibe Contract Marcel is not that far off the reality of his situation. Ancelotti determines who comes into the club now. Then there's the undermining of his judgement on manager firing and hiring.

I think I'd give him the benefit of the doubt and choose to believe he has his professional pride and wont want to stick around under these circumstances.

So you mean the players that:

1. Got offered moves but turned them down.
2. Accepted a move but Boro pulled out.
3. That doesn't play for Everton.
Whatever way you cut it: he's been a failure with spending big cash on players and he's failed to move other big fee players out.

I would be happy for Brands to be retained if Carlo identifies the players he wants and Brands negotiates to get them to the club. We only have to look at the last window to see that.

Its certainly the jackpot, to a man every single player we signed this summer has said it was to good an opportunity to pass on working with the manager.

I was struck by Carlo saying some players he spoke to (Gabriel) he got the sense didnt want to play to for the club and on that basis he vetoed moves. I wonder is there a bit of Brands coming with profiles and Carlo thumbs uping or thrumbs downing. Maybe as it should be.

Listen you could be right. I think Ancelotti could have a massive say in his future,I also think Ancelotti will see Brands jobs as more than just picking and signing players. The club is still going through seismic change from scouting,to academy structure and general day to day running of the club,Something Ancelotti may not be keen on disrupting by recommending we part ways. I feel like we're moving in the right direction so surly a make or break 2 year deal would suit all parties?

Spot on. Look we have seen brands recruit Digne and Richarlison who would walk into most sides. Of course to counter that we’ve had the transfers that we made, that haven’t come off. Like I said I am perfectly happy with Carlo identifying the players HE wants and Brands doing the rest. I think even Brands wouldn’t argue with Ancelloti’s eye for a player.

Think the esk said our net spend was about £7 million on this transfer window. Great business

There is no doubting Ancelotti coming has made Brands job easier as he helps pull top players to the club. Over the next few windows Marcel can use this to his advantage in sourcing the best young talent and it would be strange if he decides to go at this point where he can enhance his reputation at one of the most exciting projects in Europe.

I have no doubts the club are happy with his work and he will be offered a new deal. The only slight question mark would be is Moshiri still getting involved with player targets (all the rumours regarding Iwobi) and if that is the case he may decide to up sticks. Ancelotti would not be overruling Brands, I'm pretty sure between them they come to an agreement about who comes in. It's not in Carlo's style to ride roughshod all over the place.

I agree, i said from the get go we had a war chest of about 60 mill and that came to pass. We did well to balance the books and you would hope we can make up that seven million in improved positioning and a real chance at European football. I actually think The Esk was a bit conservative in his figures, i think we did better then 7 mill.

Most of our outs were in natural waste though, with contracts ending or coming to an end. There was a lot we didnt shift either - at least until January costing the club 10s of millions. While we managed to turn 10s of millions in fees and wages into free transfers, loans and nominal fees. Ultimately we still have Moshiri covering losses. Thats a position i think he would have hoped not to have been in, in the commerce of the game from a player trading point of view. I think that will come into Brands up coming appraisal.

I love our new signings but i still maintain - we shouldn't have been in a position to have had to build a whole new central midfield and buy a new attacking midfielder - given they were the positions prioritized in the window 12 months before. That is wallpapering over bad recruitment and a bad use of resources.

I'd rather we see his wages put toward signing another player.

He's a spare arse part at this club...as would anyone else be coming in on the spurious terms of a DoF here.
