They lost a penalty shootout because their keeper missed his kick. Fine margins between being dog poo and the next messiah isn't it?
With the resources and individual quality United have It should never have got to pens. Emery had already won the tactical battle with ease by getting it to that stage. Had United won on pens they’d have ultimately achieved the objective, but it would only have papered over gaping cracks the biggest of which is the clown they have in charge.

I have no idea what SAF does, United wise.

But, iirc, when he got to his first CL final, he invited Busby along for the ride. Perhaps OGS was copying that?
He was dead around five years in Fergie’s first final (it was his birthday though).

Ole shouldn’t really be copying anything from Fergie when it comes to CL finals. In two of them Pep (via Xavi, Iniesta, Messi) took him to the cleaners, his first win came after Bayern gave his side a hiding (granted Keane and Scholes were missing) and the second win came after Terry fell on his backside in the process of missing the winner.

Yeah, we established that it was the much earlier CWC.

I am not arsed what he does or doesnt do personally, and think he is in way above his head. But Fergie copied some stuff that Busby did, and just suggested maybe thats what OGS was doing last night.

I know at the beginning that Ole refused to park in the car park space named 'Manager' in respect and deference to Ferguson.
Not sure if he still does that (but it wouldn't surprise me) but if he does what message does that send to everyone at the club?

Not a great one.

OGS is the problem for United. The fans love him because he is a hero from the past and the board love him because he doesn't rock the boat. I will be very surprised if they ever seriously contend with him as their manager.

What on earth as Fergie got to do with last nights result ? , because he was a fantastic manager and now he is in purely an Ambassadorial role at the club , this again shows the bitterness aimed at him by people who dont like him

I fully accept that whoever followed him had a tough job because of his record but we should be over that by now , moyes , van gaal , mourinho and OGS found out its hard work and a lot of pressure the players themselves play like they are under fear sometimes , dont forget i think they have played 60 odd games this season

The discussion was is OGS too deferential to Fergie, and someone pointed out that Fergie was with the team last night. I pointed out that Fergie invited Sir Matt to his first European final, and maybe OGS was copying that.

The general consensus is that OGS was well and truly schooled last night, and showed a few reasons why he is way off the calibre of a Man Utd manager.

So just a normal footie chat, that happens to be mildly critical of your club. But we are the bitter ones apparently.

What do you mean well schooled the difference last night was we did not play our best and we looked jaded to be honest , its looking for exscuses to bring Fergie into the disscusion , there is nothing wrong with being critical most United fans do that all the time

Villareal were well organised and had a threat on the break, we simply could not find our best form congratulations to them , but we move on and look to August to try to get a few players in and try again ,

Fergie was with the team last night.

Schooled? Blimey. Best penalty saver left of the bench for one. No subs till a few hours ago. No discernable tactical changes.

Other than that, pretty good.

The subs yes i agree with he should have reacted quicker , should he have played Henderson i think its fair shout , but even so we should have imposed our game on them , we did not do that and when it gets to penalties anything can happen
