Personally reckon the lad would've had a better career had he stayed at dirty Leeds. Certainly would've seen a lot more game time over the years.

He was England underage captain when we signed him, Leeds were raging calling for investigations and the like. The lad himself may have had a better football career with Leeds alright but we made him a multi millionaire.

1mill quid back then was huge money then for us, I remember a transfer window round then when we waited all summer to sign Magaye Gueye.

Garbutt's problem was he couldn't defend. Looked good when we were going forward but would always have been a liability at the back. After signing that 5 year contract it took any need to learn any more away really he was set up for life. To be fair to him he seems like he wants to play as he's always accepted any loans. Perhaps we should have invested more time in coaching his weaknesses out.

It’s Bill wanting to lend the local lads a hand, also why we brought Baxter back for absolutely no reason and kept McAleny until he was about 27.

That was Kenwright at his most embarrassing/infuriating. Literally handing out charity contracts to undeserving wasters.

If the club wanted to help out a troubled soul then they should have given Baxter a role with EiTC, or sponsored him to maybe go on some courses in order to qualified for something, or just simply given him a reference. Handing him a contract to play competitive football for us (I don't care it was only for the youth side) was a disgrace and sent an terrible message. On one hand binning off youngsters, who've fully devoted themselves and never us caused trouble, yet figuratively opening the doors and and putting a blanket around a drug-abusing loser (who'd also spoke disparagingly about the club in public a lot since leaving).

The bloke probably blubbers at these adverts on telly when a woman changes hair conditioner and suddenly feels a surge of new confidence.
