Apparently there's a theory suggesting Chelsea sent him out on loan knowing he'd bang them in for us, indirectly helping them as we could beat the teams around them. Being Chelsea's "secret weapon". Anyone heard that?

Surely him scoring goals for them would be more beneficial. If he had been playing instead of Eto'o we may not have taken three points off them at Goodison.

I'd agree with this, they possibly made a mistake loaning him out. But having him playing for us this season could be better for them short term and long term, if they weren't intending on giving him too much game time this season.

I've often thought this. If they can do without him then lending a £20m striker to a team who are good enough to beat the big teams but not quite good enough to finish above you is quite beneficial to them, if we can take points off Man U, City, Arsenal etc..

Sounds all well and good but not if Chelsea are dropping points.

In hindsight it may have been, but I think the point is that at the time they let him go they thought that with Eto, Torres and Ba they had enough to get them goals and thus loaning us Lukaku, a player of undoubted quality, there was a good chance that he would help us take points off their title rivals.

Not sure if its true, but its certainly an educated point

Sounds like a total whopper of a rumour, conjured up to try & deflect from the fact that Mourinho made an absolute howler of a decision in letting him go out on loan again.

Jose Mourinho has criticised striker Romelu Lukaku for not admitting the real reason he was sent on loan to Everton.
Lukaku joined the Toffees in a surprise season-long deal on transfer deadline day and has proved an instant hit at Goodison Park.
But following comments from the Belgian this week that Mourinho has not contacted him to check on his progress, the Chelsea boss has hit back at Lukaku and warned him to watch his words.
‘Romelu likes to speak. He is a young boy and he likes to speak,’ said Mourinho in today’s pre-match press conference.
‘But the only thing he didn’t say was why he went to Everton on loan, that’s the only thing he never says.
‘My last contact with him was to tell him exactly that. “Why do you never say why you are not here?”

Sign him up.

I was wondering if there had been some falling out at Chelsea after he missed that penalty in the Super Cup. It was a shocking penalty and perhaps some people didn't feel the need to console him after the game. Lukaku saw his arse and wanted away for a bit.

Huh.

So ... it's on! right?

I mean aside from the fact Lukaku would have to want it (so we'd likely need CL) and the fact we'd need to be able to afford it (so ... I can't really think of a scenario in which that's likely) ... but it really seems like Mourinho doesn't like him and we could do some business here (in theory).

Mourinho's attitude surely works in our favour doesn't it? Given that after the derby game Lukaku said it was the "best experience in league football", and in this BBC interview he's saying how being at Everton is better for his career than being at Chelsea. Say he fires us into the Champions League and Chelsea don't get in, or even if they we both qualify, is he going to want to go back and compete with the same strikers or possibly new strikers?

He might just fall in love with being a hero for Everton.
