Lukaku

So how much do we think Lukaku would sell for after a good season with us and if Chelsea still considered him down the pecking order.... 30M?....if it was around that, and we some how miraculously had that much to spend, would people be comfortable if we doubled our transfer record and spent our whole budget on this fella?... Or would you want the cash spread around a few additions?..... For me it would be too much risk for us to spend that much on one player....

He can phone him during the games if he likes; I'm not remotley arsed as long he scores regularly for the time he's contracted to be with us.

He didnt really phone him, it was actually just his hand which he made look like a phone. I have watched several replays of it, and im certain now that its not a real phone.

I'd agree with you if it were a left back, or even a left winger, but strikers like this are super-rare.

I'd gladly see Everton spend £30m on him. I don't even think it's much of a risk.

And we should have the money - the TV money we haven't spent, we made a net £15-20m profit during the summer (Kone, Robles don't count, that was the Fer money from the previous year), and we've got a lower net wage budget currently, with Heitinga and very probably Jelavic to leave soon.

So you would be happy if the only strengthening we did for a season, maybe two, was on Lukaku?.....

I would. If we had 30m somehow (which seems ludicrous to even suggest even for the purpose of a hypothetical -- although I am aware of the maths which some would use to get us to that figure) I'd be totally happy with that being the only transfer spending.

Then maybe we get Barry on a free for a year or two contract and otherwise try to promote youth (maybe rustle up some Coleman level cash for a prospect).

It's the one position where the budget approach seems to be much more difficult. You might get lucky but chances are you'll be left with a bunch of interchangeable 10 goal a year strikers who just do enough but can't take you to the next level. A talent like Lukaku (and I'm aware he hasn't played long for us but combine this start with a strong year last year and it's a decent sample) can win you trophies.

Basically we'd need the following:

1) Martinez and the locker room pull a Jedi mind trick and convince him to put in a transfer request.

2) We have CL football to offer.

3) Mirallas is still here.

4) We have 30m pounds.

... so ... feels like we shouldn't get our hopes up on this one because that all seems insanely unlikely to happen.

I'm not so sure. They're talking about us behind our backs...and on the pitch.

If we spent £30m on Lukaku I for one would be made up even if that meant our whole transfer fund for the next two years. Our squad is good enough, with enough back-up to last 2 years. Our problems over the last two years have been made plain, by Lakuku arrival.,all pretty football, domination of games with no end product.

I think any deal for him will involve Barkley, so for me forget it

I get the feeling Barkley won't want to move..... I have never seen a expression like his after his goal... It's what he has dreamed of... Doesn't have the ego Rooney does either....
