Lukaku

I don't know what you mean by "ridiculous" mate. The things you've been quoting blues as saying have not been ridiculous in the slightest. For example, Martinez has been a breath of fresh air. He's been nothing else if not that.

'We will get 4th'
'Liverpool are crap'
'We will win the FA Cup'
I seen in the other thread about RM saying we can challenge with Man City & Chelsea. 'We can challenge top teams in Europe'
'If that was Moyes'

I could be here all day and go and find posts about RM mate but can't be bothered

His passing is horrendous. He doesn't work his socks off. Jelavic did. Lukaku does not.

If you go back and watch some of his performances shortly after he joined, his all round game was much better. The dodgy control and passing was there, but it wasn't as common and wasn't really a problem. He looked a complete player. I think he lost a bit of form around the time he stopped scoring. Perhaps he needed a rest, or maybe he was just enjoying a purple patch following joining a new club. We'll have a better idea when he comes back next month.

and a month in people said we will finish 4th.
There is a fine line between being positive and being ridiculous in my opinion.
Nobody said 'we will absolutely nailed on finish 4th, I'd put my mortgage on it'. Everyone was just being positive when we were flying and saying, we've got a boss team so why not?
Injuries happened, Sunderland, then obviously the derby. All of which rocked us onto our heels and knocked our confidence. With Barkley & Deulofeu back to supply him, hopefully Lukaku can come back firing on all cylinders and fire us back up there.

Understand what you mean.

Barkley isn't all this yet. We need to be careful. I know I've written crap in the past but he gets very annoyed at all the attention he is getting if thats a way to put it, believe me. Barkley can't find that killer ball. Nobody can in our team tbh.

I was more referring to the change in tactical approach, communication, positivity and "openness" with the fans, respect for the club's history, generally good results thus far etc.

But yeah, January didn't exactly fill me with optimism for the future, immediate and long term.
This season was our best chance to get 4th and we blew it. I know who everyone would blame is our ex manager was in charge. But everyone is saying 'trust Martinez' and all that.

I'm not against Martinez. I'm just telling the truth.

I understand what you mean about positivity though (leaving the gap on the wall in FF) which the players walk past every day is boss.

Martinez has shown signs he is making positive changes at the club. We got our first win at one of the old Sky 4 clubs and we've played some great football, changing our style of play without dropping a single league position, thus far. Is it "ridiculous" to give this young, promising manager more than a few months to have us in the top 4 or should we all call him a failure and get the knives out now?

Looking back, I said that this year was a huge chance to go for fourth. We had a really great squad with decent depth to it. I also had Liverpool down for 7th However, I had no idea Suarez was going to average more than a goal a game for more than half the season. But hey, that's what £40 odd million spent on your front three will get you. Liverpool have probably spent in excess of £100m on forwards over the last 10-15 years. It's going to click every so often, no matter what clueless belter is in charge. It has for them this year. Hard luck.

I don't think we've blown anything when we look at the bigger picture here. I always tried to judge Moyes this way too. It's a hard job this one. So much expectation and absolutely no help from the owners.

He is like a lot of English players. Like I said above, Barkley told his mate he is starting to feel uncomfortable because all the hype around him. Same thing could happen to Lukaku. It happens to a lot of English players.
I'm not saying he will be crap when hes older. He is overrated right now. He shouldn't be starting premiership games just like the barca lid.

he's still our best striker like, who should be starting ahead of him? naismith? mirallas up top?

No it's not.

Moyes blew a much better chance in 2008 when we were five points clear coming up to Easter and we lost at Fulham and drew at home to West Ham.

I'd say we were also in a better position last deason and he blew that and all.

The common denominator?

In both years the bugger took his eye of the ball by screwing around with his "contract" discussions.

Every positive thing people say about Roberto is spot on.

He is a breath of fresh air.

He has given us a glimpse of a better future.

He has reminded us of our illustious past.

He talks our club up.

It;s no wonder so many of us "trust" in him.
