Some of the comments in this thread about McGeady are pathetic. I was fearing the worst reading this thread before watching the game.

It seems McGeady is the guy people will point the finger at when we dont win. His performance today doesnt warrant some of shocking comments in this thread. If McGeady was dreadful, shocking and awful, then where are the similar comments for Barkley, Pienaar, Besic and Eto'o??? apart from that one glaring error where he should of went near post to Lukaku, he was fine. He certainly didnt do any less than the above mentioned.

If its one thing i've learnt recently, its to not read the match thread before watching the game myself.

Also like to add that I thought Lille were a bit poo. For the home side in a european game, given the experience the team has had in recent years in these competitions, I expected more. They were a bit wank and our back 4 pretty much strolled through that. Was Howard even playing ?

Thought Barry was decent and covered a lot of ground and filled into other positions well when needed. His reading of the game is superb. Jagielka has turned it around and had a very good game himself. Well played that man and credit where credit is due as he was getting a dogs abuse only 2/3 weeks ago.

We will give these a right boot up the arl hoop in a few when these make the short journey over. Based on that tonight, Lille will get a pounding at Goodison.

Just out of curiosity, how close was that to Lille's first XI?
Virtually all their 1st choice players were involved whereas we had 5/6 second string and injury returnees. So to get a point, clean sheet and a good runout for Distin, Barks and Pienaar makes it all the more satisfying. We now have a strong and rested crop of players for Sunday and due to the relatively short trip - it's probably not much more travelling time for the team as a flight to Southampton - will help with recuperation for any knocks received by those who played
I'm now confident of us progressing (despite the Lille goalies daft quote) in the EL and getting a result at Burnley

Cheers mate...I thought so, but wasn't sure.

We will bum them at Goodison I reckon.

Potential? He outpowered, outpaced and tricked his way past the likes of Baines and Distin.

When the likes of Kompany says he will be one of the top 5 strikers in the world at the rate he's progressing then you know he's good.

Me? I just use my eyes and judgement, the lad has the lot. £10m is a steal. Lille tried to keep him under the radar as they rated him as a better potential player than Hazard. I knew this before the world cup as his inclusion raised eyebrows.
He seems a lot like Sterling to me. Lots of pace and will do the spectacular every now and then but I can't see that he has the footballing brain or finesse of someone like Hazard. If Rodgers buys all these pacy players he is going to have a lot of recovery days and not much training!

Barry and Jagielka were outstanding as was Hibbert.

Barkley did very well until he faded (don't blame him), Baines was solid and Besic was sound (very unfairly booked).

Unfortunately I thought McGeady was dreadful and Eto'o didn't have a great game.

Good point that leaves us in a comfy position and one I'd have took beforehand. McCarthy man of the match.

I actually thought Hibbert was going to score at one point when he had that blocked shot in the second half and part of me was thinking "No - the fans will riot and that will not be good"

you're talking utter baloney, sorry. how can he be no further away from the finished article than lukaku?

pretty much all football fans around the world hadn't heard of origi until they saw him on the pitch in the world cup. lukaku is way further down the line in every area
Boom!

For all that were saying Hibbo did well, it's just not Coleman. Hibbo got one shot off, can't remember much else of note. They targeted him time & time again so Jags always had to come across. Nonetheless, having McHeadless infront can't be good- I just don't see what he brings to the team.

Ah the old 17 year year old let loose with paint shop jpegs. I love the way both of those pictures tell the whole story like how Lukaku went fishing in a barrell from 16-19 at anderlecht.

How he was pitched in his 2 loan seasons playing almost every game among the likes of Daniel sturridge who was on the Chelsea bench for all 2012 till he moved to Liverpool in the January.

Wierd the way it's not goals per game which would actually show him in far less favourable light. But hey, gotta make stats work for the argument, I get that.
