Actually, I was going to say something similar. Many moons ago, we discussed this in university and there never a real consensus regarding it's validity.

In Liverpool, there are many that do follow the principles, acknowledged by the artist and historians, but some others that don't, hence why I said can depict.

In terms of why people are depicted on horses, that's a lovely discussion in itself.

Talking doesn't solve anything as you can elect to not care about what they are saying. You end up speaking into an empty void.

My concern with removing statutes and trying to drag up historical actions of others is that it removes the possibility for improvement, which if people don't accept or acknowledge, makes your efforts completely pointless.

There has been a vociferous action group campaigning for that statue to be removed for years mate. Also want roads and buildings having new names as well.

Most down here just shrug, as in, "move on ffs". It was obviously pre arranged, and if it makes them happy and think that Bristol folk are in some way now Not Guilty on all things slave related, well, we dont feel guilty cos we were not there.

That said, I do get the symbolism of it. The removal and dumping of it that is. Pretty powerful.
