Current Affairs London Protests

A lot of people on social media seem to be extremely upset about a statue of a slave trader that I’d wager they’d largely never previously heard of, being pulled down.

So BLM are "the left" now?

I think its fair to assume a large amount of the protesters there would have identified as left wing likewise a large amount protesting in the aftermath of the rotherham grooming gang would have been right wing / EDL types.

Both sets only protest when it suits them when they should be standing up for everyone regardless of colour, creed, background.

There is no evidence that is what happens, though - it just makes people think their opinions are correct. Look at Richard I's equestrian statue in Parliament - why on earth is that there?
Not being flippant, but is there evidence that it doesn't? I went for a walk before, saw a blue plaque and read it; I've now researched the person out of curiosity.

It was Ronald Ross by the way who discovered that mosquitoes are involved in the transmission of malaria. I've now read more about his work - very interesting.

Would you like to know a little bit more about why people are often depicted on horses and how they're sitting and where the horse's legs can be significant?

That is a plaque though, not a statue. As for the hooves on and off the ground, I know that bit.

Semantics? They're put there as an act of remembrance and a mechanism to highlight their significance in history.

Some times these bring up uncomfortable truths - look at Henry Tate as an example - but for me that doesn't mean they should be removed. It's part of history.

Perhaps the argument should be about how these monuments could be used better to educate rather than simply tearing them down?
