Didn’t bother tearing down Colston Hall then?
Nor Colston Girls School.
Didn’t bother tearing down Colston Hall then?
'daddy, who is this statue of?'
'a slave trader son, he was massive back in the day. Killed about 19,000'
'cool, so that's a good thing then?'
'no, it's bad but they made a statue which stands above you to show you it's bad'
'ok'
A building frequently used for contests that included slaves and where they were often unfairly slain?
Beasts!Nor Colston Girls School.
Going to have to try better there. For a start, nowhere have I cheerleaded them.
Secondly, my point was that these demos - especially the London ones - have been overwhelmingly peaceful. I live near the US Embassy, I've seen the demonstrators march past my balcony each weekend, walked among them as I go the local shop, queued up with many of them in said shop. The only instance of even slight badness I've seen with my own eyes was ironically just now when a (white) kid tried to blag his way into our block until he was told to go elsewhere, and he did.
Yet because some people kicked off in Whitehall - something that happens on a semi-regular basis (including at least twice with the EDL last year) - people are banging the THUGS drum again, pretending that a couple of hundred fools acting for a couple of hours represent anything and therefore "the cause is being damaged" - which to me is a fairly clear indicator that the person who holds that view is just looking for an excuse to ignore what people were marching about in the first place.
I hope so mate but I fear the minority of trouble causers will light a fuse of the far right thugs to "fight back" then before you know it we have race riots at an already uneasy time where the emergency services are already stretched.
Mindless idiots hope they aint clapping for the NHS after this.
They need to go and do the same to churchill’s statue.... despicable manI’m pretty sure that trading human beings as slaves outweighs any of the good this scumbag ever did.
These ‘thugs’ have saved the taxpayer having to foot the bill for removing his statue as they have thankfully done it free of charge.
I mean if you get down to it and you agree with mobs removing statues you aren't democratic. I guess it would only be natural for anybody who believed in democracy to feel revulsion at the scenes. Agree with if the statues should stay or not surely the majority of people here dont support mobs?
Well they kinda do dont they?
Same way not every cop in America is racist but a minority is enough to cause massive tensions.
You cant have your cake and eat it - if you want to change society then you do so peacefully which for those that have been peaceful fair play - but allowing a fringe of thugs get involved and for you and others to look away & pretend it never happened "oh boys will be boys" mentality is the exact thing you claim to be fighting against.
As I said before- the left and right are two cheeks of the same arse - both blinded by what they want to see which is why society for most of us will never ultimately change.
Do people here want Winston Churchill's statue removed here?
Wait till he shows his lad the Wills Memorial Tower, and then explain how many his trading contributed to dying.
At least Bristol has a spare plinth slap bang centre of town. I can think of a pretty fitting replacement statue........
Because already it’s started with that kid in Dublin Yesterday getting stabbed numerous times and battered by a gang of black lads. I know it’s all races protesting but it’s still going to cause racial hate more than it was a couple of weeks ago.I think there is a big difference between being OK with it and understanding it.
Why would race crime go through the roof? It's not just black people protesting is it?
Race crime may be recorded more....
This nation was already incredibly ugly.
