One way of seeing it - for me I see the "privilege" as unnecessary. For any "loss" the net result of equality and the knock on effect of socio-economic rebalance for everyone would counter it. The only loss would be for the truly privileged in the long run, which they can afford to take.

I don't think of racial equality solely in terms of race, so I think that's why I have contrary views on it. For me, class and economic subjugation is a far bigger issue and one that creates the climate for racial discrimination to exist. In my eyes, lower class whites are racist solely due to grievances seen in their own lives and looking for a scapegoat.
That’s a good way of framing it and I agree with you. I think the benefits far outweigh the costs.

It doesn't take much to bring the self-righteous London yobs out in force if they perceive a cause to protect.

There's a lot of steam getting blown off at the moment due to the lockdown. Bandwagonning too.

I mean, someone daubed Racist King and BLM on Robert the Bruce's statue at Bannockburn up her in the frozen north. I know he was rather anti-English but for heaven's sake!
Didn't he send his brother over the irish sea to colonise ireland? that spider lover has had his day in the sun!

Again, just because I don’t agree you doesn’t mean I don’t read what you say. You think it’s everyone else who is hardline but it’s probably worth having a look at your own stuff

No, it's incidental that you disagree with selected points I make. I mean you literally don't read what I say. I say it's not just those, then you reply saying it's just those. There's no point discussing things with you if you repeatedly don't read what I say.

I don’t believe the majority of the working class is racist, labour do notneed to pander to some racists(see milbands controls on immigration nonsense)...even if it wins a few votes back, sometimes you have to stand for what’s right

The problem is the left seem unable to determine what is "pandering" to the minority of racists and actually calling out inequality across all areas.

The modern politician on the left doesnt give the working class as a whole enough credit - they think for example by calling out Rotherham as a race crime aswell as a sex crime would turn all working class against minorities when I imagine the majority would be smart enough to know better and only the loud minority would start preaching racism.

But the issue you have is the working class already have a limited voice/opportunity so by brushing something under the carpet you cheese off an already angry group of people and the right take advantage of it - see "man of the people" Farage.

Disagreeing with you is not the same as not reading what you say. Why won’t you accept that?

I don't think the term is just uncomfortable; I think it actively works against the cause.

I do agree that there is a lot of language used within groups who seek to fight for equality that seems needlessly combative at times. (From someone who has worked with various LGBT support groups)

The white privilege/straight white cis male style labels, while meant to provoke discussion, are frequently used as ammo by bigoted types to strengthen the ‘us vs them’ mentality a lot of them have.

It’s a lot like those who try to make out that BLM means ‘only black lives matter’, when anyone with half a brain knows it doesn’t.

That’s what social media has done to us, context doesn’t seem to matter to some people any more.

Hold up, why is it a race crime?
