What Is it with London moaning about everything. We don’t like this or that statue...guess what guys, outside of the cities, apart from a monument to those that died In WW1 & WW2 we don’t have any monuments. None. And away from the Port cities of London, Bristol and Liverpool, the only slavery that existed in this country was white slavery in the countryside and factories.

The vast majority of the people of this country have absolutely no link to slave trading or any form of racism. Their ancestors worked hard in the fields or factories for their masters. So why should anyone, whose family have had nothing to do with slavery or racism be called to account now. Just being British and white isn’t an answer, that’s just another form of racist attack. This is why ordinary people get upset.

So come on, hands up, just who on here has an ancestor who was engaged in the slave trade, who on here has been engaged in racism, because if you haven’t, either directly or through lineage, then why feel any guilt. You have done nothing wrong so why the hell are you getting the blame.

If our middle class millennials (of any colour), elite Liberals, ‘Celebrities’ or Politicians wish to engage in virtue signalling, then let them, but the majority of the rest of the population have absolutely nothing to do with this apart from paying a price to indulge these protesters...

Where I'm going is that the evidence of conviction for the police for this type of unnecessary force has an incredibly poor track record of conviction in America and even worse in the UK:

Those defending the police are very quick to jump on any instance of harm to the police, but here is a tweet from the police firearms association tweeting this at a time when, in spite of one part of the police praising largely peaceful protests, others are looking for violence against the police as justified as violence against protestors.

The pictures are from a 4 year period rather than the weekend, and is completely irresponsible from an organisation trusted to represent UK firearms officers. Who is ramping up violence?

Funny how its taken these protesters over 3 years to protest for "our" George Floyd.

The whole thing is a combination of social media driven anger & boredom from being in lockdown for near 3 months and a need for some to blow off steam.

The whole thing is just unsavoury.

Pot kettle lol

Im not the one whinging how bad the country is whilst jizzing my knickers because some thugs are smashing innocent peoples property and lobbing statues in the river in the name of "rEvOlUtIoN"

No doubt you'll be crying at the far right morons doing the exact same thing as your heroes on the weekend...

The country doesn't look so bad to me. In fact, it has all worked out really well for me so far. I've got nothing to personally be worried about.

Also, I've criticised quite a few times, on this forum, the vandalism and violence by a minority.

He died on the 25 May 2020.

What on earth are you talking about?

That page you linked mate about the lad who died in 2017 during the police incident- why has it taken 3 years for protesters in this country to speak out? Why has it taken a death in the US and not the one that happened in this country 3 years ago?

I get the protests in the US but over here for many it seems just an excuse to get out the house / damage some peoples property / shout F da police.

Its social media driven and instead of the calm heads prevailing the politicians and police have danced to the pipers tune.

And now come Saturday not only will we have continued mass social distancing violations across the country in our cities and a minority of thugs causing damage and destruction - you can throw in race riots and far right morons into the mix aswell.

What a time to be alive.

I was using it as an illustration of long standing injustice in the UK and about lack of accountability for UK policing.

As for BLM protests in the UK, the movement started in 2013 and mostly became prominent across the World after the Ferguson Protests so it's not long been a widescale movement. However:

The Mark Duggan Protests/riots were anther example, I not sure how many more you need?

As for only protesting something if it happens in your country that's a bit daft don't you think?

Satire no?

Dont you think that it is a wee bit irresponsible in the current pandemic considering all the sacrifices the general population have made these past 3 months?

I would get it if the murder happened here as local communities etc. Would be angry and rightfully so, but I just think this ultimately will come back to bite people on the arse both in terms of people catching the virus & damaging race relations further in the country.

No doubt they'll be clashes on the weekend between protesters and footie hooligan/EDL groups - what does this achieve for equality/peace?

Just seems social media driven with little foresight into the actual aims of the protest - hundreds of BAME may potentially catch covid but its sound as we stood on some statues neck for 9 minutes before lobbing it in the river that shown the statue.

'How do you like your oppressed?
'silent and compliant please'

The police should be turning their attention to those spoiling for a fight - particularly those who have decided to take it upon themselves to act as police.

Yes people should be social distancing. But that's gone out the window long ago - remember when we celebrated a war victory from 75 years ago (why they chose to break lockdown to celebrate a victory in Europe 75 years on from the event when we weren't even occupied eh?). Where should we draw the line at protesting/remembering events because they didn't happen on UK soil - Auschwitz, not arsed about that, it was in Poland!

Everything is social media driven. I'm not sure why that is a point of frustration for you. It's a global connector (of sorts).

Not at all - you are just blinded by your far left viewpoint. Why is me having a black mate invalidate my view on the subject? Is he not black enough for you?

Nothing I can say on here will change your opinions so lets leave it at that before you inevitably call me a racist or some other common insult because I dont agree with your views on our country.

An opinion is like an arsehole - we all have one.

Just pointing out how awful that sentence sounds in this discussion

Dont be so sensitive.

This is an important point. For the vast majority of white British this is probably true. Which is why it is important for those people to empathise with black people who were doing that as slaves. No pay, no human rights, no way out. And also taken from their home and their family thousands of miles away to do so. Then, their descendants have to continue to be treated as second class citizens in what is now their country for over a hundred years after they were supposedly freed.

You get annoyed about snowflakes and liberals because you have to read about it and argue about it on the internet. You can check out of that if you so wish. Maybe take a moment to think about what it is like for the people protesting. This is not an argument on a forum for them, it is every day having to deal with actual racism, subtle racism, micro aggressions and everything in between. Then when they have a moment when they can be heard they are called thugs and vandals and that they are threatening a second wave of covid. When for weeks we've had people hoarding on beaches and then celebrating on droves on the weekend of the VE Day celebrations.

This is an important moment in the movement for more equality and it's about effing time. It won't be solved in one go and there will be missteps along the way but at least it is a start.
