I see they are now drawing up a list of those statues they want removing. It‘s all getting a bit stupid now. Arrested black man in USA dies because of idiot policeman, so the U.K. should tear down a statue of Sir Francis Drake. Perhaps we should burn all history books that mention historical figures or redact their names....this sort of behaviour rarely ends well....

why do people want the army on the streets ? It’s an absolute dreadful idea that will end with carnage and absolutely no good result . It’s not the militaries job to maintain law and order in a civilian society it’s the police’s . If you can find me A case when it’s ever gone well we’ll discuss that if you like . There might be some I just can’t think of that you know but every time it’s happened that comes to mind for me it ends very badly for all concerned and that usually includes the military .

I’d also suggest they also don’t want to be there , I don’t mean the obvious anger loads feel over memorials or particularly the cenotaph but the military as a whole shouldn’t be there if anything it’ll accentuate a problem that at the moment is a ‘minority ‘ of a predominantly peaceful protest .Follow your idea like those who suggested troops on the street at the start of covid your just creating more problems for tomorrow .

Erm, I've got no interest in far left policies. If the Lib Dems weren't so pathetic, I'd probably align with them. Currently I am warming to Keir Starmer.

Anyway, having the army on the streets is properly far right rhetoric. The forcible suppression of peaceful protests under the guise of going after the "scumbags". It is worrying to read on this forum.

Interesting tweet this. First there’s a lot of assumptions that it’s a bunch of racists trying to save it because they are stupid, but my first instinct on seeing it was it a bunch of enterprising fellows who are fishing it out for scrap. When people have pointed it out they’ve been shouted down because it doesn’t fit the narrative that people want - obviously because they are white and have tattoos they are racist.

For people trying to make a point about assumptions and valuing people individually, it’s pretty dumb.

So your ‘first instinct’ on seeing this, was that this was obviously a group of salvage hunters attempting to lift an 8ft bronze from the briny with a clothes line and a pole, and they were then just going to waltz off with it and weigh it in? Right oh, whatever you say.

Judging by many posts on here, I don't think people have gone out of their own village.

Anyone who has had the privilege of living in the south of england and being a scouser can testify to the constant "Mind your wallet" or "Watch your hubcaps" jokes.
I even got told my someone who had the nerve to tell me she hates scousers to my face, but she said it like it was nothing, not even an insult.

It was actually refreshing from living in the south for a few years to actually travelling the world and people believing I was Irish or Scottish.

I've said this before on another thread a while back to the reason why I don't care if Liverpool do well, aslong as they don't do aswell as Everton. There are a lot of people who hate scousers out there. Sure, like all the idiots with prejudices they are the minority. Most people in life are decent people.

I've lived in London for 8 years and though I have had jokes like at my expense, it has been a quite rare occurrence.
