Its daft- I've been turned down for more jobs than I could count over the years but I dont go on that its because I have a scouse accent.

It may be like who knows or maybe others just interviewed better than me on the day or had a better CV.

Some people think there is a conspiracy in everything.

Just when I thought an internet forum could not surprise me any more... I get someone equating their accent as discriminatory as skin colour. This kind of victimhood belongs tuther side of the park...

Statements like this is why people need to be educated on the history of slavery.

The African slave trade was imported into Europe through Muslim invasion. Muslim occupation of Portuguese land resulted in slavery of all colours. Eventually the Portuguese themselves became slave traders. This lead to the North Atlantic Slave trade. Slavery branched out into Europe, it didn't start in Europe.

The idea that white people started slavery is ridiculous. Yet it is, like many myths, told in our society.

I believe we are human beings first and foremost and that's more important than skin colour. Educating how English common law played a part in ending slavery is important because English common law is something that should be taught in schools. Educating people on how white people and all races fought against slavery shows a human spirit that slavery is wrong. We can be proud that our country fought against white supremacy (NAZIS), and our country ended slavery in many parts of the world just as much as we can look back on the wrongs that our country has done. There needs to be a balance in the teaching of history.
Oh God, not this.

Thank you for clarifying.

All I can say is that I genuinely haven't seen any and I have looked more than a few times. All I have seen are quotes from somebody called Imarn Ayton, one of the organisers of Saturday's London march asking people to behave and that violence would work against them. That was before the violence and damage.
I suspect that's because they don't have a central organiser and to garner the views of many different organisations protesting under the BLM banner is quite difficult.

The police have said, by and large that the protests were peaceful as was billed by initial call to protest.

Of course it happens.
I have been told "Sorry we are fully booked" etc from Central London restaurants because of my accent when they were not fully booked. At one we turned up before the other couple, rang the other couple and told them, they went to the restaurant and asked for a table for four 15 minutes later and were walked to the table.
We then went back, told them our friends were already at the table, the other couple then got up and we told them to stick their restaurant.

I don't know if you are from Liverpool yourself - but if you are im shocked you haven't had thousands of folk sing feed the scousers and sign on to you at the matches

I've had a drunken lad in leeds have a pop on a night out years ago because he heard I had a scouse accent

I've been on a train from Birmingham and heard two blokes infront say they hate scouse and manc b******s.

If you haven't stepped out of your house recently you may not have realised some idiots just like to use any excuse to attack someone- be it there skin colour, accent, nationallity, sexual orientation, hair colour, body size.

Do I think most educated employers give a toss about any of those things providing you make them money? Nope

People like Sol Campbell just play the race card when it is not needed - I guarantee if he applied for League 2 / conference side clubs he would get a job but he in the past has gunned for Premier League / Championship jobs with little to no experience and complains when he is turned down that its because he is black.

The fact Chris Hughton gets numerous jobs in this country shows out his excuses as largely rubbish imo.

Are cockneys the most discriminated against people in the world now? It was lecherous Expats about 40 pages ago! I’m struggling to keep up.

The @ForeverBlue92 in this thread needs to go and have a conversation with the @ForeverBlue92 in the Newcastle Utd thread...

Almost complete nonsense this.

For a start, slavery considerably predates Islam - it’s mentioned numerous times in the Bible and there were slaves here from at least the Roman times onwards (and archaeological evidence suggesting it’s history goes even further back than that).

Secondly the birth of the “modern” slave trade is pretty much a British invention, borne out of British needs and the British economy.

The Spanish and Portuguese on discovering the new world initially used locals to get wealth, initially by plunder but then by extracting mineral wealth (which went back to the old countries and used to pay debts and military costs). This required some slaves, but nowhere near the amount that agricultural work did.

We on the other hand developed a sweet tooth, so needed sugar, and found that we liked cotton. We also missed out on looting Tenochtitlan, Cuzco etc, and the (then) rich lands of Mexico and South America.

All we were left with were lands in the Caribbean and what became British America and the seafaring tradition required to defend them and move goods around. We also had (even before the Industrial Revolution) a lot of manufacturing capacity, and businessmen who knew how to make money via trade rather than conquest.

This meant that people realised they could establish a trade route, with goods taken to Africa, sold for slaves, the slaves taken to America, sold and sugar / cotton loaded, then that taken home with profit made at each stage. The Spanish and Portuguese never had the need to do this (they were just taking wealth home).
