I am uneducated on this matter so please educate me but i read that he was initially refused asylum in 2014. I therefore don’t understand how he is still living in uk 7 years later. Do asylum applications and appeals processes really take this long? Is the reason he is still in the uk because they are unable to send him back to Syria and no other country will accept him?
He would’ve been granted asylum upon appeal most probably.
Most applications are done within a year at most, three to six months is the usual timeframe. No chance he’s been here for seven years without settled status.
Nobody would be here because we can’t send them back. If we deem them to be a threat, or not meet the requirements for asylum we will send them back, but that rarely happens from what I know, although being granted asylum isn’t a given and it isn’t the cushty life some think it is.
A friend of mine once told me how the Guardian never reported on grooming gangs. I do a quick google and showed her the reports from their website. She was a bit embarrassed but couldn’t recollect where she was told this. Bit worrying to be honest.
Yeah, considering the media aren’t reporting it, and that you’re not allowed to discuss it either, I’ve read about it and discussed it an awful lot today.
