Alternatively if West Ham had scored their penalty against us we wouldn't have romped to a 4-0 win and they could've got something. You cannot use any ifs buts or maybes when a team has just won 5-1 away and two games 7-0 in the same season. We probably won't see us achieve that in our lifetime.
How old are you?

It's more likely to come to an end whenever they're terrible and we're pretty good, not when they're smashing teams left right and centre and we have no defence.

Yet the top scorers in any league in Europe have been smashing teams left right and centre and little old Everton held them to a 1-1 away draw...

We've kept two back to back clean sheets - bit lucky in the first, in the second they hardly had a chance worth mentioning, yup crap teams, but two weeks prior we'd have probably shipped goals and a fair few to both.

For whatever reason, having a permanent manager finally appointed has given the team both a shape, a boost in confidence, and has seen certain individuals turn around their recent form dramatically, will that be able to be maintained against a good attacking team - who knows

But we kept a city side out for 80 minutes and they looked toothless for the first half against us, similarly after falling behind very early on against United they created very little again until 80+ minutes and arguably we looked the more likely to score an equaliser than they did a second for periods (yeah we then collapsed in a fashion we have done several times this season last 10)

I'd argue that this side with Williams especially is better when it comes into a game with a plan to defend first and foremost (at least from a defensive standpoint)

We must score and first to have any chance of getting something from the game! Liverpool steam roller teams when they score early, if we can get to half time and have not conceded then we have a sniff!

Longer the game goes with them not scoring then the more pressure naturally starts to fall on their defense and keeper to not make mistakes, they win comfortably when they score early in large parts to their back line being able to relax more as they know a mi
stake isn't as crucial - thus they don't make mistakes as much.

They are looking comfortable in defence due to the fear of their attacking quartet being on fire, if we can nullify them in the first half their defence and keeper will gift us an opportunity or two which we must take.

I just can't see it. We will barely get out of our half and even if we do I don't think the likes of Niase and Lewin will make the ball stick if they're isolated.

If Lukaku and Barkley couldn't make it happen in games like this then I find it hard to believe the current crop will. It's just so diffiuclt against the better teams to get into their half because you're so preoccupied with defending.

:)
I want SaS to be drilling them in how to form a human wall, eleven men in our penalty box the entire game, most boring derby of all time and come away with a point! A sports psychologist will be able to milk more positives out of that than if we go for it and they do us 7:0 or something.

We cannot be delusional here, they have pace right across the front line and will tear us to shreds if we allow them to. But if we nullify that pace by just blocking them out, they only have one player with the craft to break a tight defence,(Coutinho) and he isnt that great at it.

The others all rely on immense speed, so lets negate that, works our collective arses off, keep them out ( a la Man Utd) and break this run of hidings from them. I am not demonstrating an inferiority complex in saying this, i am being realistic. Our defence simply cannot cope with their front line at the moment, very few teams can!
Mate. The only way we're coming away from there with a point is if we have the SaS sniping their players from their players from the top of Big Stand:)

away to city should be the model, DCL can hold the ball up effectively and bring others into play, might have to rely on their strikers not being on it that day. Niasse will be on the bench to nick the last minute winner.

We'll get smashed, but I'd play 5-3-2

Kenny, Holgate, Williams, Keane, and Martina sitting as deep as they can, no space for their wide men because if we give them 2 a yard they'll punish us

Gueye and Rooney in front of them, get them all over Coutinho from the first minute because he's the only one they've got who can create from the middle. Sigurdsson as the attacking mid trying to launch counters for the strikers

Then Niasse and DCL, reckon them 2 can cause Klavan and Lovren problems because they'll both chase the ball all game, who knows they might get lucky and find themselves 1v1

Bit of a joke that I wasn't considered for the managers job really
It's probably our best chance of getting something out of the game or keeping the score down. Our defence would need to be error free though which is a rarity this season. Also agree on the 2 up top. We're not going to have much of the ball, but their defence isn't strong and liable to panic and Niasse and DCL closing them down is our best opportunity of creating a chance or winning a set piece close to their goal.

It's not going to be nice viewing though.

It didn’t come to an end when we were better than them.

I think they’ll think they’ve won this game before they’ve stepped foot on the pitch.
