Transfer Rumour Liam Delap

That's not quite right is it, I read that from Moyes as it is Evertons position to being able to acquire Delap as being blackballed by an other club/s.

Perhaps we have crossed wires?

Laughing, no mate. Moyes conceded our option is the black ball option, meaning we're at a disadvantage. He's not saying Man Utd, Chelsea or Newcastle are the blackballs.
Just sounds like part of the dance to me. Think we're the only club to have gone after him so publically and wax lyrical about him, and Moyes talking down our chances because he's SUCH a good player is a part of the wooing.

Moyes hasn't just started discussing this one specific transfer for no reason. Its letting them know we're very keen.

There's a reason why managers don't tend to talk publicly about who they want to sign.

My point is over what perception is peddled publicly.

It was Moyes who said we want to sign him. "if he's interested, we will be" It was Moyes who continued to talk down our chances with ref to black ball option.

And we're now seeing headlines from some of the biggest news drivers of Everton's pitch as a feeder club.

Ideally we keep schtum, and if he signs, great. We then control the narrative. If not, we're not left looking like soft arses with any other signing 2nd best.

Find it very bizarre Moyes has been so public on it. To whose advantage is that?

It certainly is.

As a club, I think we'd benefit from him not doing that - particularly this summer.
For a manager that is a stickler about commenting on players elsewhere and protective about others doing similar to his sides, it is entirely down to the relegation release clause and it's broad advertisement that has led us all here.
If he doesn't make comment about a publicly available striker who we desperately need (a striker, not necessarily this striker) then questions are asked about why we aren't in the mix for a talent.
If anything it lets the agents of the world know there's a pay day at BMD and us the Everton support that the obvious squad recruitments are at least acknowledged.

I can't provide the energy to every soundbite, rumour, whisper and tangential spin of certain commenters to keep up with every minute incremental crawl through the day. Every day. Our season finished not 48 hours ago. The transfer window opens when? We've some of our squad cuts to officially say good bye to. There's two finals this weekend. The pre transfer window to the club world cup crud, then a close, then a reopen, then our tournament in the u.s. then pre-season.

….ESPN now saying he’s agreed personal terms with United but I’d imagine every club speaking to him have been prepared to meet his financial demands. If it’s the case, we might know more in the next few hours.
Press going in headline he’s agreed to sign for united then in article…

‘United are waiting on Delap to decide’

So press know no more than anyone else.

If you take everton out the mix. Why on earth would you join Man U. Yeah chelsea/newcastle champs league etc…but Man U.

They are still a giant of a football club despite their problems

We’ve made our pitch, who knows where he’ll end up, its now in Delap of the gods.

I wonder what Ruben Amorim, Eddie Howe or Enzo Maresca have publicly said about their pursuit of Liam Delap?

Anything?

I can only speculate why Moyes has gone so public, and repeatedly - it's against his MO. He very rarely does that - how many times has he spoke about a player he wants to sign? Fellaini/Baines was a last resort. I think Moyes has gone public because he fancies our chances, and if he signs, it'll reflect well on him to have convinced him to come to the black ball option.

Probably should close the thread at this post until there's confirmation either way

Yeah and almost none of them are valid in Delaps case where he has a release clause and is publically courting half the league.

Christ if we didn't properly take a run at him you'd be moaning about lack of ambition and being defeatist

Pragmatic reality is one thing, narrative/perceptive is another. Let's not position ourselves as a Brighton, Bournemouth or Brentford.

Publicly, let's at least pretend we have belief/ambition - otherwise we can't expect others to believe it.

I agree with this in principle but it doesn't really align with the reality of where we are right now.

Unfortunately we are still likely to be perceived as even being on a level below Brighton, Bournemouth, or Brentford right now.

Signings like Delap will bring us back into that group and once we are there we can start making ambitious noises without it sounding a bit fantastical.

the thing with united is that if they do come good, they could be on the verge of titles very quickly given their stature and money

if he’s the striker that helps deliver that then he’s a legend forever

in all likelihood they keep imploding, hopefully.
