I don't think the argument is that he hasn't gotten stick for it so much as getting a bit of stick for refusing to support the rainbow campaign is really nothing compared to the everyday attacks and issues people in the LGBTQ community have experienced trying to participate in football.
If you want to take a stand publicly then be prepared to face the judgments of others in public.
Representing the club and these campaigns as an ambassador of the club and the league is part of what those captains are paid for. It's a public facing role and they aren't forced to do it.
If they want to hold their beliefs privately there are a lot of ways that could be facilitated. Dropping the captaincy is one of them.
Don't cry foul over being judged in public when you've accepted a public facing role as a representative of something else other than your own personal views.
Your replies to me in this thread are really strange mate, because again this just isn't related to what i'm saying at all. The argument in the post I responded to was quite simply that he wasn't getting stick and I'm replying within the context of what was said. Whether that's what
you would have posted if it was you I was replying to is really neither here nor there, because it wasn't your post I disagreed with.
I can't really be any clearer - I think it is justified to criticise him for his decision, I'm not claiming that he is the victim, I am not saying anything is being rammed down anyone's throat, I'm not comparing his treatment to that of the LGBTQ community or even James Mclean (?!), I was literally just saying it's a bit weird to say nobody is giving Sam Morsy stick (and in fact claim that it is 'quite the opposite', suggesting he is being widely praised) when he blatantly is getting stick for it. I don't really see how it helps the discussion in any way to say something that is so clearly false and just let it slide, that's all.
For the avoidance of doubt, me saying this is the current affairs equivalent of me saying 'nah he did catch him like' if somebody suggests in the football forum that Salah has dived after Ashley Young two foots him into the top balcony tomorrow - I'm just acknowledging the reality not supporting it.
