I mean, he clearly is getting grief. Understandably so like, i'm not saying it's wrong, but it's bizarre to pretend like everyone's just said 'ah no worries then' or completely ignored it, he's definitely been heavily criticised for it.

How dare you, you fascist, right wing Nazi. Im so angry. Grrrrrrrrrr.
Ok, so googled it, not a lot really, mixed reaction at best - nothing in the slightest compared to James mcclean

He's gotten a bit of grief but nobody will remember it or his name next week.

It's not like he's prevented from playing footy or anything, or being told he isn't welcome in the game.

I genuinely didn’t hear anything - the general reception I saw was that it was considered his choice and nothing else
Nah it's been talked about in parliament and everything, it's been a big deal. Certainly social media etc is absolutely full of people having a pop.

Just to be clear 'James Mclean has it worse' and 'it's been quite the opposite of people having a go actually' are really not the same thing. Morsy has clearly got a load of stick for his decision, that's all I'm saying. Personally I think that stick is justified, but I think it's just plain weird to act like it hasn't happened when it so obviously has.

What are you on about?
It was talked about, no one was crying about it. I’m just pointing out the rightwing waffle that ‘it is being forced on us’ ‘rammed down our throats’

It’s just not, mate.

You lot are the only ones making it an issue
I don't believe thats accurate. At all.

I was tagged in to this thread by @Daveysgingerlovechild and said I didnt care and that hes done nothing worthy of the criticism and that its a mountain out of a mole hill.

How does that equate us "making it an issue"?

Let me guess, something, something right wing...

I'm not even right wing.

Yes, that is a completely different point to the one I was disagreeing with though? I'm not saying oh poor Sam Morsy, he's the victim in all this, I'm just saying theres no point trying to claim nobody's given him any stick because they really have. It doesn't really do the argument any favours if you just make stuff up to suit it, so i think it's better to be honest about it.

I don't think the argument is that he hasn't gotten stick for it so much as getting a bit of stick for refusing to support the rainbow campaign is really nothing compared to the everyday attacks and issues people in the LGBTQ community have experienced trying to participate in football.

If you want to take a stand publicly then be prepared to face the judgments of others in public.

Representing the club and these campaigns as an ambassador of the club and the league is part of what those captains are paid for. It's a public facing role and they aren't forced to do it.

If they want to hold their beliefs privately there are a lot of ways that could be facilitated. Dropping the captaincy is one of them.

Don't cry foul over being judged in public when you've accepted a public facing role as a representative of something else other than your own personal views.

You aren't claiming he's a victim in this but certain others are in this thread as ridiculous as it is.

Fact is he's performing a job in public as a representative of another organization and so he is going to be judged in the public eye as a result. If he doesn't like it he can give up the captaincy. Nobody is forcing him into the public eye and judgment.

Your replies to me in this thread are really strange mate, because again this just isn't related to what i'm saying at all. The argument in the post I responded to was quite simply that he wasn't getting stick and I'm replying within the context of what was said. Whether that's what you would have posted if it was you I was replying to is really neither here nor there, because it wasn't your post I disagreed with.

I can't really be any clearer - I think it is justified to criticise him for his decision, I'm not claiming that he is the victim, I am not saying anything is being rammed down anyone's throat, I'm not comparing his treatment to that of the LGBTQ community or even James Mclean (?!), I was literally just saying it's a bit weird to say nobody is giving Sam Morsy stick (and in fact claim that it is 'quite the opposite', suggesting he is being widely praised) when he blatantly is getting stick for it. I don't really see how it helps the discussion in any way to say something that is so clearly false and just let it slide, that's all.

For the avoidance of doubt, me saying this is the current affairs equivalent of me saying 'nah he did catch him like' if somebody suggests in the football forum that Salah has dived after Ashley Young two foots him into the top balcony tomorrow - I'm just acknowledging the reality not supporting it.

You just spouted off about him being coerced, which clearly nobody was.

Couldn't respond to a reasonable discussion so you're playing the clown.
Mate, i already said "I've ran out of regurgitating my same point over and over again to you, yes." i said it just before. This was your response to that very comment.

Further, I think we both know you are not being reasonable. Hence the clown jibe.

Go and think about what you've done.

What's not reasonable is claiming someone is being coerced to wear an armband.

You've tried to make a point and not supported it at all.

The clown jibe was pointing out you resorting to humor with your little screenshot because you didn't actually have an argument to make to support this claim or coercion.
