Leighton Baines

If we sell Baines, this is the guy...

Oh look, I got it wrong on one player, my opinion on all others must be invalid.

Incidentally Coleman didn't play at full back until Moyes thought the defensive side of his game had improved, and still looked ropey the first few months. While Oviedo can improve, of course, and is technically sound, we can't afford to let him improve while in the first team at full back right now because it'll cost us too many points in what looks like it could be a promising season.

THIS.

If Leighton goes (sob ) then would you really wany Oviedo to start in his place???

Last season looked like a promising season and if we'd not let Coleman into the role he may never have become the player he is now....

That was ages after I'd said he was gash defensively, though - I'm sure they worked on his full back positioning, timing of tackles in training efc. over time. Had they thrown him in a year or so earlier he'd have been terrorised, as would Oviedo now.

Not even bothered any more.

Love Baines, but he's not exactly rushing to declare his love for the club publicly. The club clearly don't want to make the situation worse by admitting he's refusing to sign a new deal. I'm sure the club is fully aware he'll have 18 months left on his contract come January and would offer him a new deal in a heartbeat if they knew he'd accept.

As someone else posted, we'll get over him, we always do. I just hope for the sake of momentum we keep him until the end of the season.

And also, I actually hope we don't sell to Man Utd. It's got to the point now where I'm not even that bothered if a player is sold as long as we don't sell them to Utd. The deals with Utd have been very unhealthy and the disrespect both Ferguson showed, with his dealings with Moyes and his comments on Kenwright, and now Moyes with Fellaini/Baines over the summer, stinks.

We should say to Baines, if you want to go, you can go, but you're not going to Utd. It's what Liverpool would do, they wouldn't sell to Utd. And Utd wouldn't sell to Liverpool either.

Excellent post. Agreed.

I think our team will look a lot different next season, with major changes in January and in the summer. If we lose two of our prize assets (Baines and Barkley) lets make sure we get great compensation/replacements.

Dont get me wrong, I'd absolutely hate it if they both leave, they are two fantastic players as we all know and we all want them to stay. But this is what I would take in any deal for them:

Baines to United for 10 million PLUS Hernandez. We buy Luke Shaw to replace Baines.

Barkely to Chelsea for 10 million plus Lukaku. Highly unlikely, but I can dream.

Hernandez/Lukaku strike force would be tasty, imho.

That at the very least would be the other way round

Looks like Brennan has Azurri on the ropes here. Legs Akimbo, Azzurri has the towel out and Brennan's Handbag is poised for the finishing move.

FINISH HIM

But on topic, you wouldn't pick Baines for a highly paid athlete though would you. If you didn't know who he was you'd think he was an accounting assistant or something very boring.

So'ton is sugar loaded, and you can see how much they can spray on overpriced footballers (Vegard Forren, Gaston Ramirez etc) without complaining a bit. They won't have a reason to unload Shaw especially it looked like they can keep up their form for much longer.

Tin hat about to go on !. Is Baines as effective and influential under RM as he was under the Moyes teams ?.great free kicks at upton park , no doubt great quality but for my money not up to his normal standards , could well be that Pienaar has been out and that could be a reason, but am I the only one thinking Coleman has played better as an attacking full back this season ?.

Great post.

He may well have indicated that he wouldn't sign a new contract and that's why we aren't discussing one with him. It seriously limits our bargaining power if everyone knows he won't sign one. It looks like he's off, which is a massive blow but we'll move on.

As for replacements, it's impossible like for like. Best bet as others have said is to buy a solid left back and use the money on a boss left winger or hope that Pienaar can provide the assists on the left and blow the money on a striker.

We need a bidding war if possible , so we can sell to anyone other that United

I have frequently thought that if a big club like Man Utd, Barcelona or Real Madrid came in for an Everton player that the player would just leave. You dont say no when they come in for you.

But Now Man Utd arent on that list of clubs.

Baines might stay at Everton cos we are more likely to be in the Champions League in the future few years than Man Utd the way we and them are playing.

Moving to Man Utd at the moment could be a backwards step at his age. Just a thought.
