Leighton Baines

I think our team will look a lot different next season, with major changes in January and in the summer. If we lose two of our prize assets (Baines and Barkley) lets make sure we get great compensation/replacements.

Dont get me wrong, I'd absolutely hate it if they both leave, they are two fantastic players as we all know and we all want them to stay. But this is what I would take in any deal for them:

Baines to United for 10 million PLUS Hernandez. We buy Luke Shaw to replace Baines.

Barkely to Chelsea for 10 million plus Lukaku. Highly unlikely, but I can dream.

Hernandez/Lukaku strike force would be tasty, imho.

Lots of crazy ness here.

We won't get Shaw.

The area graph that was posted on twitter re Baines against Villa this season and last shows he isnt as vital to us under RM as he was under Moyes.

I hope we keep him tbh for this season at least. You look at the table now and you can see the end of the season might be shaping up as City, Chelsea and Arsenal for the top 3 but that 4th spot has (at the moment) Us, RS, Man U and Spurs fighting for it.

Dont see why we would consider strengthening one of our 'rivals' to weaken ourselves so significantly?

Unless were gonna get top money for him - which 12-15M just isnt worth us selling imo.

We also have no idea what RM is doing behind the scenes so if he is already lining up Martyns Indi or whoever as a direct replacement for a thrid of the price...it may be great business. Lets face it, 29 year old left backs with 18 months on their contract just aint gonna command £20m + we have to be realistic.

At the end of the day, your left back just shouldnt be the key player in your side.

Weve lost better players than Baines and always seem to kick on. I have complete faith that if Martinez is prepared to sell him, he has something even better up his sleeve. He has had 1 transfer window and look what he achieved.

What Baines has to think about is if he goes to utd will he win any major trophys ie champions league or premier league . Even if Moyes gets sacked and they bring in a world class manager it will take two seasons to get the right team to win these trophys . By that time Baines will be 30 -32 so might not be in his peak like he is now and the manager could be looking for someone younger

I have frequently thought that if a big club like Man Utd, Barcelona or Real Madrid came in for an Everton player that the player would just leave. You dont say no when they come in for you.

But Now Man Utd arent on that list of clubs.

Baines might stay at Everton cos we are more likely to be in the Champions League in the future few years than Man Utd the way we and them are playing.

Moving to Man Utd at the moment could be a backwards step at his age. Just a thought.

Really? Sorry mate I can't say I agree with that. We are on a good run so far, but will no doubt have a bad patch. There are some very strong squads out there and the top 4 is not really likely.

United are in transition, but have money to blow and after the last window they will likely spend big in January. Also, 2 of our best players so far are loans and Baines going would weaken us further. Top 6 is realistic, but still a tough ask IMO

Tin hat about to go on !. Is Baines as effective and influential under RM as he was under the Moyes teams ?.great free kicks at upton park , no doubt great quality but for my money not up to his normal standards , could well be that Pienaar has been out and that could be a reason, but am I the only one thinking Coleman has played better as an attacking full back this season ?.

No tin hat needed as far as I'm concerned.

I agree about Coleman as well. He is hands down my favourite Everton player. At £60k, he has to be one the greatest ever Premiership purchases as he wil be world class one day.

Everton are also in a transition period and I can only see us getting better and moving up the league. Man Utd are in transition and I can see them blowing a shed load of cash on players but i dont see them ever being the force they were under Moyes than they were under Sir Alex.

We should just say to Baines, look, if you want to go, give us a great season, help get us into Europe and leave in the summer.

I couldn't give a crap if it loses us money on his fee, the extra points he gets us will give us money from league placing's and possible Euro revenue.

Correct.

Selling Baines in January for a few million more than he would fetch in the summer could turn out to be the mother of all false economies if we are still in the mix after Christmas

I feel Baines' intention is to give us his all this season and leave in the summer. It's gonna be a big World Cup and the chances he comes back to Everton after it are probably 50/50.
