We reject £15 million for him in August...why do people think we'd even consider the same amount in January?? I can understand the rags writing this nonsense, but fans believing it is even harder for me to understand. "Everton describe Baines bid 'derisory and insulting' in August....but it January 'It's a sexy amount of cash'.

It was 12m in August.

Baines hasnt signed a new contract, whos to say he wasnt given assurances that we would accept a "reasonable" amount the next window.

Im not saying 15m is reasonable, I wouldnt sell him, for any price, but think he will end up leaving for somewhere between 15 and 17m.

The "derisory and insulting" bid was a joint 27 million for both Baines and Fellaini, not a 15 million bid for Baines.

It's inevitable though isn't it? He's gone in January. He wants to play in the World Cup and the Champions League. Makes me sad.
I'm sure Roberto has the replacement lined up (+ reinforcements elsewhere) for the 15m we'll get for him.
Really do have an exceptional amount of trust in Martinez.

This is probably wishful thinking, but what do you think Baines will be thinking if we're sitting in 4th and 6th points clear of United at the start of January? At our team he has a guaranteed position in a system that suits his abilities, is first priority for set pieces, and has spent years developing chemistry with most of the players around him. It seems like it would be insane for him to want to leave in January right before a world cup.

Not to mention that if he has a good world cup, he can command much higher wages because he'll be more sought after.

i can see him leaving in the summer easily, but I can't see him leaving in january.

Quoted for emphasis.

This is a logical post for of common sense and reasoning.

...but we are Everton. This has no place in this forum or in our Front Office.

Deffo possible mate the huge bowling ball skittling the pins over is the media and utd combo regarding england selection, one of the press monkeys on the Sky Sunday Supplement said if he was in a utd shirt he would be first choice LB.

Regrettably I agree but more to the point I think this is Baines mindset.

VIrtual Manager Transfer Offer?

But that is no different from what they were saying in the summer.

Nowt has changed save the fact we sit above them in the league and there is no reason why we still won't be above them in January ergo the faraway field suddenly won't seem so green.

FWIW, I can't see Baines being allowed to leave in January if we are still vying for a CL spot.

It would be rank bad management to weaken our chances and at the dame time strengthen the hand of a rival.

And rank bad management is passé at Goodison these days.

He might go in the summer.....but I can't se him going anywhere in January.

I think Baines will push for the move in January. If so I'd like to see young Shaw come in. Given time he'll be as good as any left full in the PL.

I think the difference is timing, essentially the great transfer window acknowledged by one and all could have looked decidedly less so if baines and Felli had gone particularly at the 11th hour with no chance of replacing .

As it is the seed has been sown it's no longer a rumour he is a confirmed Moyes target and Evra has since said he's off at the end of the season. Surely it would be good planning to cover that problem before it happens?

It is supposition of course and no-one really knows - we live in hope.

I haven't seen him properly but when I have he has just looked average. Is he that good? has he got pace or is he slow? is he technically good?

We would need to buy Shaw first and then off load Baines but I highly doubt Shaw would leave Southampton.

No chance can we get Shaw.

They are doing just as well as us, has signed a new contract, and his cub are rich. Would cost more than Baines.
