Leighton Baines

Not even bothered any more.

Love Baines, but he's not exactly rushing to declare his love for the club publicly. The club clearly don't want to make the situation worse by admitting he's refusing to sign a new deal. I'm sure the club is fully aware he'll have 18 months left on his contract come January and would offer him a new deal in a heartbeat if they knew he'd accept.

As someone else posted, we'll get over him, we always do. I just hope for the sake of momentum we keep him until the end of the season.

And also, I actually hope we don't sell to Man Utd. It's got to the point now where I'm not even that bothered if a player is sold as long as we don't sell them to Utd. The deals with Utd have been very unhealthy and the disrespect both Ferguson showed, with his dealings with Moyes and his comments on Kenwright, and now Moyes with Fellaini/Baines over the summer, stinks.

We should say to Baines, if you want to go, you can go, but you're not going to Utd. It's what Liverpool would do, they wouldn't sell to Utd. And Utd wouldn't sell to Liverpool either.

We were linked with that Grenada left back. Forget his name.

Then Madrid wanted him, the price trebled and think he went somewhere else.

Siqueira, He ended up at Benfica on loan so he could be a possibility at the end of the season maybe

Bertrand isn't a bad shout though I think, couple that with possibly Martins Indi to fill the Milkman's shoes all for the price of Baines then that leaves us with the rest of Felli's fee and hopefully some new TV money to spend on our striker hunt at the end of the season

As soon as the window closed reports emerged that Martinez wanted to reward Baines with a new deal. Pretty quickly those turned to Martinez in no rush to offer a new deal and nothing was imminent.

I think it's fair to say that the smart money is on Baines being granted his move in January.

From a business point of view, I personally think it's good business to get 15+ million for a 29 year old left back, especially if that money was reinvested in younger payers who will contribute for a number of years to come.

The main worry for me is the fact that it's a clearly popular player leaving, popular with both players as well as fans it seems.

Aye he'd have signed by now. Martinez was going on about rewarding him properly and nothing has happened in two months.

From the reliable whispers getting out it would seem he fancies the move.

Disappointing but as long as we get very decent wedge for him then its how it is. We move on.

baines might be waiting to see where utd are come january...they might out of champs league and no chance of title! i say leave it up to him, he deserves to decide

If he goes in jan we should demand 20 million for him seeing as it's the January window and players are more expensive . We should give utd the choice either pay 20million now or risk having Baines sign a new contract if they opt for a summer move for less money . I would prefer him not to leave but if he's going Wait till summer so we are not rocking the boat on our season and we can look for an adequate replacement

i think bertrand is ****ing boring. what does he do? not the kind of replacement. Only target within britain should be ben davies, don't watch enough footy outside our britain so couldn't come up with any other possibilities, maybe a cheeky bid for fabio contreao ha.

anyway, baines asked to leave today on my FM game so it's on

There is nothing smart about selling our one world class asset, never mind for £15m.
The "smart" money would be that whoever directly replaces him at left back, probably won't be as good.

But the aim is to come out of the deal with a stronger squad overall.

Martinez is going to have to continue to be shrewd in the market as he mostly has so far.

If he wants to go then he's going to go whatever we think. However if he's got sights on the WC next summer I can't see him going in January. He'll be out to impress Hodgson and won't want to be moving to a new team with the chance that he won't settle in immediately... or be stuck on the bench (like Fellaini). I'm sure he's going to go, but I think it won't be till after Brazil.

If he does go then left back is normally the position that doesn't need to be very good attacking just got to be solid . Maybe we should change strategy and find a good winger who can attack like Baines
