I would be devastated to see Baines go. he is a model professional and a great bloke too.
But I do wonder if the lack of contract talks is due to Everton? He will be able to command 80k+ a week which will make him the top earner. In todays market that is the going rate for an England regular who is the best in his position.
His age means that this will be his last mega deal so he needs to get the right deal for his long-term career.
I don't think he is as important a player in Martinez' Everton as he was in
Moyes'. Even after the 2 utter wonder strikes against West Ham Martinez commented that he preferred to win a game through flowing football than via set pieces.
I don't think the overlapping and bombing the box play of Seamus and Leighton has been evident or as required as previous season's.
The most important players in our new set-up appear to be where Barry/McCarthy operate. No coincidence that we have won every game that Barry has started. I guess the key for our future success is finding the long-term replacement for Gareth Barry.
