Left Back Debacle

Bit harsh of course he isn't what he was and coming to the end but he could still play a role as cover or rotation. The fact he's been flogged to death is probably why he's injured now. The negligence was not buying a left back or having adequate cover. It's actually absurd.
Indeed, Baines would be a fantastic backup, someone who can fill in for injury and has massive amounts of experience.

The bastion of Journalism, strikes again.

Everton are struggling to find a suitable left-back to target before the close of the transfer window.

Sam Allardyce has repeated his desire to find a solution to the Blues’ problem position but admits few defenders fit the bill.

Allardyce is unable to put a time frame on Leighton Baines’ return from a niggling calf injury but confirmed surgery has been ruled out.

Cuco Martina continues to deputise in Baines’ absence but Big Sam says everyone is aware that he is not the long-term answer.

Asked by the ECHO if he still wants to sign a left-back, Allardyce said: “If you could find me one I suppose it would possibly be a position we would like to try and fill.

“There’s no doubt that Cuco is doing a fantastic job and yet he, myself and everyone knows it’s not his strong position but at the moment we are finding it difficult to fill that position.

“So we do need a left footed player, not just at left-back, we probably need three left-footed players in the squad but we’re not going to get that this season.

“But certainly the balance of the squad will have to be addressed next season with more players capable of having a strong left foot.”

Everton are interested in Lille defender Adama Soumaoro but have yet to make a move for the 25-year-old who can play across the backline but is used predominantly at centre-half.

And to compound the Blues’ problems at left-back Allardyce says they cannot afford to rush Baines back from an injury that has kept him out since the end of November.

2 things here.

1 - Asked by the ECHO. Crying.

2 - "Cuco is doing a fantastic job." Yeah, sack him now.

It doesn't exactly fill me with confidence, enthusiasm and optimism Allardyce saying things like 'There’s no doubt that Cuco is doing a fantastic job' and 'we probably need three left-footed players in the squad but we’re not going to get that this season'.

With all respect to Martina, he undoubtedly works hard but he would struggle to get in any other team in the premier league as a first choice right back, never mind a right footed left back and they have known about this left back problem the entire season and have had plenty of time to sort it out and scout potentials. Teams are blatantly targetting us down that side and punishing us. It goes further than incompetence, it is gross negligence and not just from Allardyce but the entire Everton Hierarchy.

When your only aspiration is survival why waste money on a left back? Only the fans at Everton want success. The board, manager and players are absolutely bemused by the idea. They are all only here to pick up their part of the prem riches and make sure we don’t go down.
