Left Back Debacle

Not really seeing as Sigurdsson, Rooney, Ramirez, Walcott and Tosun will all be on wages of 80 grand - 150 grand a week which is more than Lukaku and Barkley were paid. Still no excuse for not bringing in a LB when we're clearly desperate.
I’m no expert, but I’m sure it doesn’t work like that. going off the piece the @theesk did last year. You can increase your wage bill by 7mil a year. And you can only increase that figure by upgrading the previous year revenue from kit and sponsorship deals. And gate receipts, or profit on player sales.

So the profit from Ross & Rom is roughly 75mil, so in theory would could increase our wage bill by 82mil. Like I said I’m not a 100% on this, so I could be wrong. And I’m not sure if it’s January to January. Or August to August.

Leighton should do the honourable thing and cancel his contract. He’s like a lame horse now, no use to anyone. We need to stop being so bloody sentimental ffs.

Stop sponging off the club you complete has been. That £70k a week or whatever he’s stealing could be put to good use.

Out.

Fully agree. He's a liability nowadays. Just hope he doesn't get to Hibbert standards in the next season or so. Any forward-thinking club would have him gone asap and the next generation left back brought in.

What's amazing is we don't even have a left back in the youth teams, in Limassol we had to play a right footed central midfielder in Charsley there. What a club.

...we spent £6m for Lewis Gibson from Newcastle in the summer. He’s still only 17 but is already a regular for the U23s. He’s actually been playing left sided CB of late, with Matty Foulds filling the LB spot. Both Gibson and Foulds are left sided defenders.

Antonee Robinson is a conventional LB getting regular game time on loan at Bolton and Callum Connolly played LB for the England team that won the World Cup but is getting rave reviews playing in central midfield on loan at Ipswich. Obviously, neither Robinson or Foulds were available for the Limassol game.

There’s plenty of left back cover in the system but they were either not available or presumed not ready for the Limassol game. The decision to send both Connolly and Robinson on loan does seem a bit daft given how increasingly unreliable Baines’ fitness is.

Koeman either decided neither are good enough, or not as good as Martina.

When it comes to finance, the Esk knows his stuff. But if you know better then maybe you could explain FFP

Just reading on Sky news Allardyce quoted as saying after the arrivals of Tosun and Walcott, there will be no more new faces this window and that he wants to trim the squad. Do we have Garbutt registered or something?

I think they give us significant wiggle room on wages as they effectively mean a combined accounting profit of about £80m (STCC mean we can only increase wages by something like £5m per year unless we make money from other sources other than TV money), but I'm not sure they get rid of the FFP issue entirely
Can we please not start with this STCC [Poor language removed] again? Barely gotten over my headache from when esk was bleating on about it

Bit harsh of course he isn't what he was and coming to the end but he could still play a role as cover or rotation. The fact he's been flogged to death is probably why he's injured now. The negligence was not buying a left back or having adequate cover. It's actually absurd.
