Ledson to leave Everton?

This is one of the main reasons why i dont rate him. Rarely stays at clubs (usually sacked) and doesnt bring kids through.

Can see Holgate dropped if we sign Kone and then Coleman and Baines fixtures with backups signed rather than kids.

Has had cleverley come on before davies...
Well, I must say out of those on offer I gave him the thumbs up over the likes of FDB and Emery. He has PL experience and I liked the way he set S'ton up in their first season (though not so much the second when they went a bit more direct).

The one major concern I had was the way he brushed aside the youth set up at S'ton, which was pretty ignorant and/or arrogant given the absolute treasures they've produced in recent times. He was a man in a hurry and didnt fancy shining rough diamonds. I hope that isn't on the cards here.

To me, Dowell has the best football brain of the kids coming through. I'd like to see him get a lot of game time to bring that through for the benefit of the first team very quickly. He's undoubtedly a top talent. If that lad isn't getting near the pitch then there has to be something wrong.

Who would you be dropping to play Dowell Dave?

Shocked if he is let to leave. Little while back reflected that per the Martinez model he is further along than Davies and pure chance really got Davies into the first team v Norwich when it easily could have been him. Catcher mentioned something similar now I note.
I feel it would be mistake to let him go. He needs a loan to a championship side. I feel this is more bad luck and timing than a reflection on his talent. I have been shocked before but I thought this guy was a banker not long ago. He has been more and more periphery where we were wondering if he was injured or why he was left out. Guess those clues add up now.

With him chosen for England again I thought he was back in the spotlight... Hope it works out for him and its with us!

How was it pure chance exactly mate?

I hope Koeman isn't going to be a cheque book manager. It seems a bit ludicrous to post that given he has no net spend yet, but I dont like the early signs in terms of either respecting what we have coming through the academy or pausing before moving on players that he should consider making better players and keeping.

These are things that with any sign of a poor run will come back to bite him on the arse.

We are a club that rightly prides itself on bringing through talent (especially local talent). It's not just about saving cash in the transfer market it's also about preserving an organic link between club and fans who get a buzz out of seeing one of their own coming through the ranks.

As said, early days on the Koeman blueprint and hopefully it doesn't veer top wildly away from our M.O. of the past.

Our MO was bringing kids up through the academy Dave, really, how many of them have we produced in the past 30 years that have made the grade and gone on to have a good career at top level?

You still reckon we should bin Barkley off btw as you've stated a fair few times?

I don't think we can have it both ways.

Do we want to be the family club, operating on limited funds, trying to wheel and deal in the transfer markets bargain basement and operate an academy that we are heavily reliant on to produce talent that will ultimately be sold.

Or.
Do we want to be one of the sharks in the pool, a bully. Sometimes using our name and our owners bank balance to tempt better players to the club. We will be better, we can target silverware.
However, we won't be the family club any longer and it will get ever more difficult to get anyone except the absolute cream of the crop through from the academy.

The vast majority of our youth players get binned off mate, as they aren't good enough and we are a professional premier league football club and not a charity. The ones who do come through have only come through because they have been good enough. If they weren't good enough then they would not have reached the first team.

It has always been this way! Everton have never been in the practice of selecting first team players for a laugh, or to sustain some alleged 'family club' status that doesn't even exist. Our wage bill is nearly 80 million pound a year, and we have absolutely no room to carry people who aren't good enough to compete in the most competitive league in the world. If you aren't good enough then you get moved on, and it has ALWAYS been that way at Everton.

Shame - lives in the same close, hardly see him now but was / is a fervent evertonian. The apparent decline seem to set in under RM, perhaps distracted as you can be at that age.
Has he put any meat on him yet? I saw him in the park end a year ago and the lad lacks any sort of weight.

Bin Barkley? Erm...is that how you interpret me saying we should play him in a certain position - that seems obvious to me is the one he's destined for - as me saying we should bin him?

Past 20 years mate, never mind 30. Players who've come through (appearances in brackets):

Osman (358)
Rodwell (68)
Rooney (48)
Ball (116)
Barkley (109)
Jeffers (51)
Anichebe (73)
Cadamarteri (50)
Dunne (65)
Hibbert (297)

Not bad as a return - all those first team games.

And that's not to mention players like Branch, McCann, Vaughan, Duffy, Baxter, Pennington, Browning etc who got some game time.

The next generation who can become part of the top list are Davies, Dowell, Connoly and Kenny...but only if they get on the pitch.
