Under the Shadow

A brilliant horror.

An Iranian horror which was actually the UK's entry for the foreign film at the Oscars. Set in the during the Iran/Iraq war, a missile falls and as it doesn't explode, people think its haunted. Reminded me of the Babadook without all the screams. It's on the UK Netflix and less than 90mins.

I eventually got round to watching it. I thought it would be sub-titled and not dubbed.
So, although it was clever in parts and 'jumpy' scary in others, I was distracted by the dubbing.
A decent enough film (I just prefer sub-titles over dubbing).

Not sure what version you saw but mine was definitely subtitled..

This horror was on Film4 last night, so it'll be on again.

Follows a group of young explorers deep into the catacombs underneath Paris, as they search for the Philosophers Stone ( nothing to do with Harry Potter ! ).

It's filmed in the catacombs so there's a real claustrophobic and atmospheric feel to it.

It's really scary in parts, as it all goes badly wrong and there's a few real jump out of your seat moments, but it could've been so much better if they'd ditched the hand held shaky camera effect and gone for regular filming.

I've always hated that style. It's never been good or added to (rather failed to detract from) any film I've seen it in imo. Blair Witch has a lot to answer for.

I have to disagree with both of you on this.
This film is excellent and the shaky camera, in this instance, is there because they are filming the search for a documentary, using cameras in their headlamps.
It adds to the feeling of 'being there' and builds up the tension including the claustrophobic feel.
It's great.
:p

Horses for courses mate.

Just made the whole film feel a bit low budget.

It's a shame, as the idea for the actual for the film is very good.

It'd be worth remaking and ditching the shaky camera.
I have found that with a lot of films lately, that the story is there but something is lacking that I cant explain, sort of a that will do attitude

Spot on, it's like the films have become, bland and homogenised, there's no real " heart " in the films and try as the actors might, there's just that something missing.

I think a lot of it's down to " safety first ", as they wont take risks anymore with film making. It's all about turning a good profit, rather than making classy films - look at all the the remakes and sequels.
