Under the Shadow

A brilliant horror.

An Iranian horror which was actually the UK's entry for the foreign film at the Oscars. Set in the during the Iran/Iraq war, a missile falls and as it doesn't explode, people think its haunted. Reminded me of the Babadook without all the screams. It's on the UK Netflix and less than 90mins.

The Childhood of a Lead

A genuinely chilling film. About a fascist leader's life of a child and how he became one. You see him as the fascist in the first 5 mins and its interesting to see the subtle small things which make it happen. Scott Walker composed the score and its chilling. The last 10 minutes left me speechless, the score and sense of fear is incredible.

Crimson Peak...

Not bad, it's a very well crafted film harking back to The Haunting with a real gothic tone and a couple of quite creepy set pieces. The production design is fantastic, cast are fine, script is.. fine.. It's just del Toro did this same story, basically, in Devil's Backbone 1000 times better and a lot cheaper. Even one of the ghost effects is the same but not as eerie. I'd like to see him go back to a low budget Spanish language flick after getting Pacific Rim 2 out of the way.

I loved it because I knew I could just sit back and be in Del Toro's world, but you are right.
