Funny, was just thinking about this film earlier. Didn't really like it. I don't expect CSI Miami-eqsue exposition, but for most of the film I had no idea what was going on. And then it finished.

Agree on the tension though, they got that much right.

Watched 'Drive' this evening. Really good film, but I'm hoping someone can clear something up for me:

the robbery of the pawn shop. So Gosling, Hendricks and the other bloke turn up, go into the shop, then that other car turns up, and that bloke gets shot leaving the shop.

What's going on here? Who was in the other car? Hendricks knew they were there 'to stall them', but who wanted the job to fail?

Everything else about the film was great but this particular aspect feels a bit mixed up.

The money belongs to the Mafia. The guy eventually drowned in the ocean planned to steal it off the robbery gang but they would still take the blame for the robbery (from the Mafia) because they had carried it out. That is why 'reasonable guy' partner of ocean guy agrees to kill everyone else involved in plan so that Mafia will never find out about their intrigue (which Driver now realises).

Having snooped around the net last night, it appears to be as follows:

the money belongs to the mafia. But I think you have it that other way round. Ocean guy instigated the plot, but the robbery gang intended to hijack that robbery (I suspect in cahoots with the pawn shop owner, hence them claiming no money was stolen) and keep the money for themselves but Gosling foiled that plan, setting the killing spree in motion.
