Last Film You Watched

The wife made me watch Fifty Shades, and I thought it was a desperately poor film. Absolutely no sexual frisson or on-screen chemistry whatsoever, the main bird, I forget her name, utterly failing to pull of the 'shy girl but actually up for it' role, and to cap it off, Ellie Goulding.

All that is true, but it's not the worst film ever. Yeah, the soundtrack is woeful, makes you cringe.

Just watched The Stranger from 1946, Edward G Robinson, Loretta Young and Orson Welles, great cast if you like the old films. Interesting as well from a historical point, Eddy G was hunting a escaped Nazi, Simon Wiesenthal style, coming out so soon after the war must be one of the first films to deal on the subject.

Deepwater Horizon which I thought was a really well made, thoughtful film, some good build up and neat performances. Not unlike Sully in which both are quite simple, shortish films, based on recent tragedies, and kind of involve around the inquests into them. The Accountant was a fairly silly film although not awful, The Girl on the Train was a very silly film which your Mrs is going to love and you're going to despise despite the three attractive leads. Trolls was actually a surprise, take your kids they'll love it and it's clever in it's saccharine treatment of the Tolls and very British treatment of the giant ugly things. Watched a better quality version of Suicide Squad and it's still just dead set plop. How could they be messing up the DC films so badly? DC have much better material than Marvel yet looks to be in the wrong hands. I would have started off with Swamp Thing or Doom Patrol or even The Authority or The Sandman and then built it up into Superman and Batman. Jumanji is still a classic and was a fun one on Christmas eve for mini McB.
