Last Film You Watched

The coffee table. A very, VERY dark comedy! If you can enjoy a giggle at the most awful things possible, then you will enjoy this movie. Naturally I found it hysterical

Watched this last night.

Deliberately didn’t read anything about it beforehand.

I’ve got to say, that although I knew it was an ultra black comedy, I really really didn’t expect it go in the direction that it went 😮

Not for the faint hearted.

28 Years Later : The Bone Temple.

After the let down of the first 28 Years Later, this was a very welcome relief, as it`s really good.

They`ve stripped out all the silly and nonsensical stuff from the first 28 Years later and just made it simple - Good v Bad / Infected v Un Infected.

Ralph Fiennes and Jack O`Connell were outstanding in their roles and the Iron Madien Number of the Beast scene with Fiennes and O`Connell was spell binding stuff.

I can`t wait to see where they take the next one.

Watched Hamnet today

Its a great film although for a long time I thought the lead female character was called anyas and that it was some kind of scandanavian name until it clicked that they were actually calling her agnes

On the topic of names, I found it very interesting how they never actually referred to Shakespeare by name at all in the film until the very end which must have been a deliberate ploy

I also thought the actor who played hamnet was very good. Fun fact his mother played Julie in Coronation Street and his brother is also an actor who played the character Hamlet in Hamnet.

Watched The Rip on Netflix.

Weird film. Had a great cast and clearly a big budget, but I couldn’t really connect with it. Something just felt a bit off with the editing and direction. There’s a good film in there, but to me it didn’t land.

Trust 1990

Strange indie film with deliberately stilted dialogue and cinematic framing. It's like you stick films by John Waters, early Tim Burton and Wes Anderson into a mincer and and end up with a weirdly watchable movie that has its own atmosphere. Not a good film, or a film that would get made today, but it has... something.

The Tank ( 2025 ) Amazon Prime.

German language film with subs, very much modelled on Das Boot.

The German army are in retreat in Russia and tank crew are tasked with returning to the front line to retrieve a missing German general.

Not as good as Das Boot ( but not many war films are ) but still very watchable.

A good cast, with a lot of faces you’ll recognise from playing German characters in English speaking films and very good battle scenes.

Big twist at the end, with subtle hints dropped all the way through.

Terror Train (1980)

Post Halloween scream queen Jamie Lee Curtis. College students, practical joke, party on train, rampaging murderer, Groucho Marx, The Gorn, terrible white boy funk and David Copperfield.

Not particularly good and the official trailer really doesn't give a proper flavour. The full thing is on YouTube or Amazon but there's a condensed 'Copperfield Cut' below which at around the 3:35 mark has the man himself doing card tricks to porn music which is pretty much all you need.
