Last Film You Watched

The Bone Temple.

Loved it. Great stuff from Fiennes & O'Connell. I was a bit wary of this director as I didn't think much of her tepid take on Candyman, but she aced it here. It earns its 18 cert - tbh I thought the previous film pushed at the limits of the 15.

Will see it a second time at the cinema, which is something I very rarely do these days.

Oh, and The Number of the Beast. What a scene.

Tried watching Nuremburg. I thought the script was awful and Malek was irritating me to no end. I switched off after 15 minutes.

Was still in the mood for WW2 so in case of emergency, watch Downfall. An absolute masterpiece from start to finish. The acting is unbelievable, you really get a sense of what we're missing when you only watch English language films

Where Eagles Dare has just started ; the film where unlimited bullets are available for the goodies, whereas the baddies' bullets are repelled by a moveable force field. Will of course, be gradually be dragged into watching the whole film. :)

"The Straight Story" is just about to start on film4. 1999 David Lynch offering. Dig in, it's supposed to be a good un.

Hadn't seen before. So a little bit of 'forest gump', some 'bridges of madison county', more than a nod and a wink to 'born on the fourth of july', an echo in 'saving private ryan', I've seen 'nomadland' before this and it touches similar themes. Oh, some early humour somehow re 'old yeller', and the bickering brothers is from elsewhere but I can't pinpoint it here. I thought i'd seen the sucker punch coming but it never arrives. A film about hurting and healing and the tragic passing of time through those two aspects.
The star of the film is Richard Farnsworth, and he's probably best known as the sheriff from 'misery' and he grumbles and craggily twinkles in similar fashion. He was dying from terminal cancer whilst making this, his last film and very sadly killed himself to escape the pain after it was finished. The film is dedicated to him.
Spacek plays a reserved and sad part that is note right for the role. Deserves mention.
It is a film based on a true story, made around 1995/1996, but released in 1999. So it's 30 years old really. It presents a version of america that feels a lot more distant than that. :/

Would watch again, 8.5 tractors out of 10.

edit: A mournful lament to life and loss, a slow and steady shuffle towards the abyss of space.
