Just finished these three films - the Baztan Trilogy :

The Invisible Guardian
Legacy of the Bones
An Offering to the Storm.

All set in the stunning Baztan region of Basque Country in Spain.

The investigation and fight against witchcraft and ritual murder, practiced within the confines of an ancient rural community.

Each film sets the tone for the next and the third one in particular is outstanding, dark, brooding atmospheric and relentless.

Stunning location and the same excellent cast all the way through, which helps with the continuity.

Recommend if you like dark crime stuff.

Netflix Spanish with subs.

@Joey66 I reckon you’d like these.

Watched these a few months back...

Its 'not bad' and a good time killer but theres such a lack of suspense and also a fair few holes in it.

The list of films I need to watch has been completely out of hand for as long as I can remember, but I will try to get round to these. Had such a good time when I spent a fortnight in Basque country many years back, and I've always meant to watch more things set there.

Robocop (for about the 10th time)

Still holds up today, the satire still bites, the Murphy death scene is still one of the most brutal ever IMO

Just boss

I remember being quite taken aback by that scene when the film first came out - it seemed to belong to a totally different category to the sort of violence I'd seen in 80s cinema up to that point. Really stuck in my mind, as did "I'd buy that for a dollar!"

Watched this last night : Errementari. ( Netflix)

Based on Spanish folklore in the eighteenth century.

It was supposed to be a horror, but was that bad, it was funny.

An evil blacksmith breaks a pact with the Devil, who seeks revenge.

One to avoid, unless they remake it and cast Nicolas Cage as the blacksmith.

Deadfall (1968)

Michael Caine stars as a talented thief who gets involved in the plans of an unconventional married couple (Eric Portman & Giovanna Ralli) to steal jewellery from the mansion of a Spanish millionaire.

There's quite possibly a good heist movie to be had here but it gets a little lost in the button pushing provocative melodrama of the three central characters. It's well played though and Eric Portman is especially good. Also has an enjoyable turn from Leonard Rossiter early on.

The "practice" heist in the middle of the film is worth a watch. It does feature a feat of difficult to believe superhuman strength from Caine's character which raises an eyebrow but is well shot and brilliantly soundtracked as it cuts between the heist and the John Barry orchestrated concert that the homeowners are out watching at the time

Not enough to save it completely though and it does fall a little flat for large portions. Might be of interest to Caine completists and the Majorcan setting is different to the standard heist fare but not something to go to any great lengths to find.
