The Man Who Knew Infinity.

Biopic of Indian Mathematician Srinivasan Ramanujan who despite having no academic schooling of note went to work with some of the leading lights at Cambridge before/during WW1.

Pretty standard stuff, but good performance from Jeremy Irons as his mentor.

Easy enough watch, even if you have no interest in Mathematics.

I'm making a "Lockdown List" to tick off over the next few weeks of films I somehow haven't seen yet:

- Monos
- An Elephant Standing Still
- Inland Empire
- Super Dark Times
- Under The Skin
- The Vast of Night
- Mandy
- Beyond The Black Rainbow
- Enter The Void
- Metropolis
- Mulholland Drive
- Nocturnal Animals
Super Dark Times was interesting but not that eventful
Under The Skin is one of my favourite films ever - but very Marmite
The Vast of Night was an understated charming little film
Mandy was an overrated horror with a typically loony Cage performance
Enter The Void is typical Gasper Noe crap (Irreversible aside)
Metropolis is a stone cold classic
Mulholland Drive is exceptionally creepy - bloody complicated though!

Reckon I’ve picked a pretty decent list though!

So, I went on a Kurosawa binge over the last few days.....and watched my top 5 films of his. In order of brilliance:

1. Throne Of Blood.
2. Seven Samurai
3. Hidden Fortress
4. Yojimbo
5. Ran

Honestly, I ranked them like that, but really, any one of them could be number 1. Any other Kurosawa fans here. Other films of his I like.....Ikiru, Rashomon, Red Beard and Stray Dog.

When FACT first opened they had a season of showing his films, well they showed a few.

Mortal Engines - A dumb but fun steampunk sci-fi which turned out to be more enjoyable than I expected.

The Wandering Earth - A different setting but a typical average disaster movie, not something I'd recommend.

Nightcrawler - A weirdo starts a career as a freelance video photographer who makes money from selling crime scene footage to news channels. Jake Gyllenhaal makes for one of the creepiest, weirdest and dislikable main characters I've ever seen. Good movie though.

Cargo - Australian zombie movie. Not a horror, more emotional story about their child surviving after parents being really stupid. Not great but some might like it.

Watched this climbing film, The Dawn Wall, documentary type about a lad climbing El Capitan in Yosemite, great film.
The fella it's about was interviewed in Free Solo I remember, the climb he does took years to do, free climbing with a partner.
If your a sport fan this one is a great watch.
Also not a film as such but on a similar subject I watched The Final Ascent, the legend of Hamish Macinnes earlier, that an incredible documentary about a great life, Scotish climber, who worked on several films too including the Eiger Sanction.

Not a fan of Martin Freeman at all, but I thought he was good in this and a nice bit of casting.

I can understand why others might disagree, as Cargo is one of those films you either like or hate, with no middle ground.
