Continuing with my B movie Fest -
Doomsday.

Watches like a full length BBC drama, rather than a film.

Cross between Mad Max and 28 Days.

Bearing in mind it was made in 2008, the premise of the film is scarily true at the moment.

A killer virus infects Glasgow, eventually overrunning Scotland, leading to it being walled off and the population being left to die.

A few decades the virus re surfaces in that London and a team is sent back into Scotland to look for an antidote.

A cracking all British cast, led by the very lovely and honed Rhona Mitra.

Entertaining if you don’t take it seriously.
Scotland; Best place for those jocks...just keep sending the whisky

Spanish movie on Netflix called The Platform where prisoners are on separate floors of this tower-like thing and a platform of food comes down but of course nobody is willing to ration.

Would be really good if it had a more conclusive ending.

Just finished Sound of Metal. Thought it was excellent. Riz Ahmed’s performance in particular

it’s on Amazon

this week watched Kind Hearts & Coronets, an Ealing classic. So many years since I’d last seen it. Fun fact Alec Guinness got paid 6 grand for doing all those different parts

also Die Hard 2. Still loved it but I’d never before spotted so many flaws. Yippee Kay aye though

also Calm With Horses, I think a very good movie just slightly spoiled for me by the accents and the dialogue. The tone was a bit off for the types of characters they were IMO. Might not notice if you aren’t irish

also Ad Astra, decent just a bit dull for me. Probably my fault. Think I was expecting summat else

oh and 12 Angry Men, again. Easily top ten for me

China's largest sci-fi epic i understand....

You need serious suspension of disbelief to get past the ludicrous premise and ongoing 'casual' relationship with physics, geography, geology..., most of the characters are fairly annoying and the reward of a couple of decent set pieces isn't really worth the effort. Looks decent enough for a $50m budget.
Watched it last night.

The overriding message (unsurprising seeing as it originates in China) is clearly:

Personal sacrifices are generally the right choice.

Greenland. Pretty much your standard Hollywood disaster/apocalypse movie, with Gerard Butler doing his usual thing.

Not one worth putting to the top of your "to watch" list, but mildly enjoyable to watch and get rid of 2 hours.
