I actually quite like both Prometheus and Alien 3 - both are flawed but have interesting ideas

Resurrection is the worst because its so daft (especially with that crappy cheap rubbery alien skeleton flying out of the window at the end) Covenant was just pretty dull - honestly can't remember one single scene from it
My abiding memory of it is Kenny powers at the wheel

Alien 3 - not great.

Fincher obviously hadn't entirely left behind his music video sensibilities behind and add that into the very messy circle of development hell it had been swimming around in then it would have been a miracle for something good to come out of it.

As a ropey B-movie it would have been OK but a major studio motion picture on the back of the previous two films and with that cast? It's pretty awful.

I didn't mind the big events at the start but the rest of it is a mess. Why is Ripley so reluctant to warn given the events of Aliens and how furious she was at "The Company" and their lack of action? Clemens big reveal doesn't inform any possible actions so is pretty pointless in terms of storytelling and the Bishop creator thing is just uninteresting and pretty much irrelevant.

The Alien lure/chase bits are all a bit messy as well with the Alien altering it's running speed as and when the plot demands.
The Director's Cut does improve it significantly over the Theatrical release but as you say, its a bit of mess that struggles to rise above the production issues.

For some reason I had the urge to watch Meteor (1979) last night.

Dated in many ways (in fact, I don't think there was ever a time when it didn't seem dated), but the political and dramatic elements hold up. The script is very well done, it has a rousing orchestral soundtrack from the underrated Laurence Rosenthal, and the ensemble cast including Sean Connery, Natalie Wood, Henry Fonda, Martin Landau & Karl Madden cast is worth the price of admission.

The definitive earth apocalypse movie has probably yet to be made, but this is head and shoulders above more comtemporary efforts like Deep Impact and 2012.

8/10

Freaks ( on Netflix but not a Netflix film )

You’ll either love it or hate it.

A real thinking sci-fi.

Set slightly in the future, people with “powers” are rounded up and killed. A father desperately tries to hide his daughter who has “ powers “ away from the world.

The first 40 mins are really slow, as the little girl and her dad never leave their house, however is very well acted, dark and picks up pace as it goes on, with a nice little cameo from Bruce Dern.

Watched this on friday.

Wasn’t a lover of it, but still enjoyed it.

One of those if you lose focus for just one minute you’ll lose the whole plot of the film so I didn’t really know what was going on towards the end.

Dog Day Afternoon - Terrific

Atomic Blonde. Really enjoyed it. Theron + McAvoy were superb. Not to be taken too seriously when Theron destroys everyone in the film but entertaining enough.

Good action film that. Very enjoyable, great setting and looks superb.

Fire Saga. Comedy is dead. The early 2000s were a golden age.
Watched Eurovision: the Story of Fire Saga and enjoyed the hell out of it. McAdams was brilliant and some of the songs are fantastic. The writers clearly understood Eurovision
Watched that this morning and I'm with Prev here. Little bit long but a lot of fun....Especially the angry fella constantly demanding "Ja Ja Ding Dong".
